Alcohol Outing Me!

Help!

I have a friend's wedding coming up, it's abroad. They are loaded so there will be a OPEN BAR!!! Obviously, I won't be drinking but I know that as soon as my friends see me without several a complimentary gin in my hand they will instantly know in pregnant.

It's very early days and these friends aren't overly close so I'm not willing to spill the beans just yet.

The antibiotics excuse doesn't really hold these days as most of them are ok to take with alcohol. Does anyone have any corker excuses stowed away please??

I drink lime cordial and soda water when I am not drinking. No one ever notices. I like to run so if I am planning to go out I find this great.

I nurse a drink till people are "more merry" then its sugar free tonic with ice and lemon which I fetch myself from the bar. Most decent people won't comment even if they notice. Am 8 months myself so people don't even offer anymore. However I noticed recently at a wedding a girl pulling my trick. We were talking at the time and she put down a glass of champagne caught my eye and laughed. Nobody NOBODY said a word.

If you are asked directly if you're pregnant, then perhaps say you are having a dry month, and change the subject.
It's difficult if people ask you outright. I'm usually the first to take advantage of a free bar and then partake in wild drunken dancing afterwards Grin so it was obvious when I wasn't drinking but the sober October (insert appropriate month) excuse seemed to work for me.

Same. If you don't draw attention to it, nobody will notice. I do it regularly because I like to drive and not arse about with taxis. After a hen do when I was newly pregnant, people commented on how drunk I looked in the photos - I was just exhausted!

raviolidreaming · 16/10/2016 16:19

Should add, I never go into a kitty so nobody has to ask. Just say I'm getting my own as trying to pace myself or whatever.

Newmanwannabe and that's why I haven't drank alcohol at all during my pregnancy. For me, it's not worth it. Not sure why you picked me out there though.

It's surprising how few people notice when you're pretending to drink - especially the more they drink! Tip a bit away every now and then!! But soft drinks with a slice look or even a plain tonic water with ice and lime/lemon smells boozy! Have fun!!!

I managed to keep this a secret on - couple of big nights out. First I told someone behind the bar and they kept getting me lemonade in a short glass so it looked like I was drinking. I pretended I had sickness and the runs at one event. Antibiotics is such a give away and no one asks any more details once you mention the runs Grin finally on my work leaving do I also told someone at the bar and even when my colleagues bought me shots she brought over lemon water and I downed it and they never knew. They didn't even notice it wasn't on the meal bill. My husband was even told I should probably slow down as I was looking a bit drunk!

windowsneedaclean · 18/10/2016 20:40

I used to pretend I had drunk far too much the night before and couldn't face alcohol again. I also said I was doing Stoptober last year and spent the evening sniffing other people's wine and saying how close I was to giving in

Newmanwannabe · 19/10/2016 06:05

Audrey I wrote your name because you said your midwife told you "that a glass here or there isn't going to cause FAS or anything", which no one knows if that's true for sure .. I wasn't implying you took her advice though Smile

TheDowagerCuntess · 19/10/2016 06:15

You can't say you're having sober/dry [month] if you're normally found right in the midst of a good night out - everyone will know, and the more pissed they get, the more likely they are just to come out and ask.

Pretending to drink - fake G&Ts / VL&S, or 3/4 glass of wine/bubbly that you raise to your lips is the only way to bluff your way through it.

I don't know about you, but if I told people I was doing sober October while at at free bar wedding, they'd be rolling in the aisles.

windowsneedaclean · 19/10/2016 06:24

I just said I was doing it with a group of people from work. Only trouble was that people kept trying to give me sponsorship money!!
