I finish up on Tuesday 29th June. Today I have done 30mins of work and other than that.... NOONE has spoken to me!

I am a non-person, invisible. Obviously I am now deemed incapable as I'll be away in 3 weeks time. Anyone else felt like this?

It's really pissing me off and rrrrreally making the last 3 wks drag!

Toothache - under new legislation, you now have the right to request a return to work part-time and, they refuse, they are obliged to explain to you, in writing, why they can't accommodate your request. This legislation has been in force since April 2003 and, apparently, something like about 80% of requests have been agreed to. I did this in my job, but had a hard time negotiating what my being part-time would actually mean. I had to go to the union in the end, but I won. Part of the 'ignoring' I'm getting is petty revenge from my boss over this setback for him.

OldieMum · 08/06/2004 11:42

That should read, 'if they refuse' ...

Toothache · 08/06/2004 11:44

Thanks Olidemum - I kinda thought they would have to consider it for me. My boss hasn't spoken to me since I announced I'm pregnant! I mean literally has walked passed me and blanked me on a number of occasions! He's such a pig. [anger]

Luckily is not my direct Manager.... he's my Manager's Manager.... very professional of him don't you think??!

That was meant to be and face!

Tony Lucey was the operations manager when I left 1-3 (didn't like him much, thought he sounded a bit like Rick from the Young Ones) and Gillian Forsyth is the materials manager for the department I just left. She's nice. One of my managers at my last place was originally from Monastral (John McNaughton - not a great manager but a lovely bloke) and one of my friends has went back to work there (Davy Mackie).
What a small world.

Toothache · 08/06/2004 11:59

Too right it's a small world!!! Tony reminded me of Rick Moranis... it took all my willpower not to burst out laughing when he told me in all seriousness that Man Utd wanted to sign him when he was 20, but he got injured and had to stop playing football. He also liked to tell me constantly how much alcohol he had consumed over the weekend... to let me know how much of a 'lad' he was!!! ROFL!

John McNaughton - So sweet...yet so gormless if I remember correctly.

I still keep in touch with Gillian, in fact, she was at my wedding in October.

And Davie Mackie!!! He used to be allowed to sneak off early to take me to my antenatal appointments.... sparking rumours about the parentage of my unborn.

Due to myself and the lovely Mr Mackie having cups of tea together when I was all alone on backshift, it sparked many a rumour that we were having a wild and torrid affair - yeh, like I'd have the energy. I would have killed to work in Monastral as it woud have put me back to being a mantech. However, I'm in analytical. At least I'm on full shifts again.
We used to call John 'Rab Rubbish'. He was a completely crap manager but like you said, v.sweet. He got a bit panicked when I told him I was pregnant. He insisited I see the nurse and asked if there was anything they were doing to me that I didn't like.
Toney Lucey split from his wife apparantly and has turned into Mr Suave. Gone are the glasses and floppy hair, hello contacts and swept back do.

Toothache · 08/06/2004 12:15

HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHA! Tony... Suave!

I worked with his wife for a while too..... many a rumour about an affair... hmm. Mustn't say too much.. You might be her!!

I only knew one female Mantech. She worked in Monastrals then. You must be a rare breed.... like me.

That would be Fay. She used to work in 1-3. Got a lot of stick from blokes on other shifts saying she didn't pull her weight. So not true. She didn't like shifts but the guys who actually worked with her thought she was great because she did all the stuff they didn't want to like paperwork and instrument work. She's now a station manager in Monastral.
Don't worry, I'm not the wife of Tony Lucey (eurgh). There are rumours of many affairs. I used to think that when someone got a Station managers job, they got a concubine along with it. Sort of like an office perk.
I was very rare. I was the only female man-tech not to have served an apprenticeship in the factory and I absolutely loved my job. Hope to get back to being one at some point.

Toothache · 08/06/2004 12:26

Do you mean Faye Gemmell? When I was at Monastrals she was the E&I Manager... just as I left she was promoted to Plant Support Manager working under Willie Struthers (now there's an image!!) definitely not a Man Tech... this girl had long blonde hair? Maybe she was called Fay too?

Speaking of affairs.... Willie Struthers!!! D'you hear anything about him now, is he still there?

OP posts:
gscrym · 08/06/2004 13:24

He's still there. Apparantly known as teflon as nothing ever sticks to him.
Don't know who the other girl was. There were a couple of female man-techs but I never worked with them. There's been a couple of sackings from Monastral. I think it's a way of getting rid of people without paying them severance.

Once you go on Mat leave, we should go for coffee. Weekends are a bit difficult for me becuse I'm working all of them for about the next 4 weeks. I'll need to tell Davy I was chatting to you.

Toothache · 08/06/2004 13:28

Ah I'd forgotten about his nickname! Hee hee... Is he still having 'relations' with that young girl?

I caught them having an intimate moment in his office once. >snigger<

I didn't like him much, but then I was told that for the collection for me leaving he put in the most money!

Yeah that sounds great!
Tell Davy I said hello! He'll know who I am.... there weren't many pregnant Tech Clerks in Monastrals.
