Pregnant again after late miscarriage. What extra support / tests did anyone have?

Hi all,
Late miscarriage at 16 weeks in March. STILL waiting for all of the results to come back which is completely rudiculous and awful in my opinion. Consultant said to start trying straight away and get referred asap for a care plan. Roll on 8 weeks and I've still not been able to see her, had no additional support or tests or anything yet and I've now had an episode of bleeding. I feel totally let down by the system. I had to have a booking appointment before I could make an appointment to see the consultant (even though we still haven't discussed reasons for our late miscarriage with her!!!!) now they are saying the midwife has to call and book an appointment for me?! I am going to be 10 weeks before I've even seen her and we've not even been told if I should be taking baby asprin. Called the gynaecology ward and they also fobbed us off and wouldn't offer a scan despite my history and the bleeding, luckily midwife has seen sense and booked me a scan. I just need to know if anyone else got seen earlier / was actually given a 'care plan' or extra monitoring that was offered or was it all just rubbish to try and make me feel better at the time? Anxious, frustrated and feeling totally abandoned by the nhs!!!

So sorry about your sad loss and also congratulations. I lost my baby one day off 17 weeks. I had to wait ages for any results and was already 9 weeks pregnant again before I got a letter from the consultant saying that they didn't know why it happened and to take aspirin in subsequent pregnancies. I was really anxious because I was already pregnant. Started taking the aspirin straight away. I think it's just one of those things that might help but won't do any harm. I take 75mg. Ask your mid wife if it's OK to take even though consultant hasn't said to. I have had no special 'care plan' and had to ask for an extra scan at 16 weeks to ease my anxiety. No extra mid wife appointments either. I also felt a bit let down. Now at almost 28 weeks things seem to be going ok. Got a scan tomorrow.

First things first if get on to your consultants secretary you can just phone the main hospital number and ask for the secretary pester her politely morning, noon and night until you get to at least have a phone consult with your consultant to ask about aspirin etc.

You can also phone the supervisor of midwives and Pals all of them should get the ball rolling more quickly than a GP.

I had a late miscarriage due to insufficient cervix and had regular scans for this from 18 weeks so you could ask about this too as well as the aspirin

Thanks so much for your replies. I have started to take baby asprin now, were either of you ever offered progesterone? Hubby and I have both been phoning the secretary who has kept saying we need to get the midwife to refer us which is ridiculous in my opinion. Thanks for advice about calling Midwife Supervisor / Pals will try that tomorrow! The whole thing just seems extremely poorly managed, midwife wouldn't book me early and left me hanging, consultant leaving me hanging, constantly being told I won't have any extra scans or anything yet in the hospital I was promised as many extra scans as I wanted and to be dealt with sensitively / compassionately and a full care plan in place. I guess they were just trying to make me feel better.

How long ago did you have your tests done? I had two late miscarriages last year, at 21 and 14 weeks. The tests can take a while to come back.
Do you have an Early pregnancy unit at your hospital that you can self refer to about the bleeding or will your GP refer you?

I would definitely phone pals and put a complaint in. It's not fair to be kept in limbo not knowing what you should be doing. You would have thought that your consultant or midwife would have at least booked you an early reassurance scan.

Hi, I had a miscarriage at 20 weeks last year and am now 35 weeks. My consultant saw me after 6 weeks and confirmed incompetent cervix and that I would need a stitch. Her secretary organised a scan at about 8 weeks and I was scanned again at 12 weeks. I also had a scan and harmony test privately. I was then seen very 2-3 weeks and now roughly every month. I have been on progesterone since the beginning. I have had to insist a few times on scans and been firm but I think you should complain until you get the care you have been offered. Unfortunately sometimes you have to shout for it. Best of luck xx
