I'm measuring small for dates and am scared

At a midwife check last week baby was meauring 29cm at 31 weeks. Up until that point it had been bang on target. The midwife wasn't overly concerned though. Because I felt anxious I went back to be measured today and now I am 29cm at 32 weeks so have been booked in for a chat with a doc at the hospital and hopefully a scan.

I don't understand why this might be happening, my other babies were all fine, the last one being over 9lb at birth.

I'm trying not to think of all the "what ifs?" as they are so many .

Has anyone else had this experience and what was the outcome for you? Have these measurements been very different to your baby's size at birth?

I have lots of strong movements and the heartbeat was also strong. I know I'm getting myself into a pickle and I do have tendency to look on the gloomy side.

My measurement stopped increasing at 34 wks. I then had to be seen every week - only to be told it hadn't changed (more stress). I don't think the midwives were brilliant, told I would probably be scanned by one the next week then another said not to (meanwhile I had been looking up all the awful possibilities on the internet). Then I was told I needed a scan but would have to wait 5 days.
Made a fuss and eventually had a scan at 37 weeks and the minute she looked at the screen I was told it definately wasn't a small baby. All the measurements were fine and we went away feeling reassured.

At 39wks we had a healthy 8lb daughter, I just think I hid it well.

My DD was induced at 37+ weeks as hadn't grown for a few weeks. (Had been bang on the 5o centile line to 32 weeks). Scan predicted she was 4-4.5lb and thought best to induce.

She delivered at 6lb 2oz!! I had almost no water & she was very well hidden. However, was glad she was induced as was very skinny and I trust their judgement.

DS was born 4 yrs later at 9lb 6oz.

Hope your scan goes well & that you are confident in the doctors etc recommendations.

Sexkitty - I measured small for dates with DS. Measuring 3/4wks below actual gestation. Scans showed there was very little fluid and that he wasn't growing properly. Diagnosed as IUGR as others on here. He was born by emergency section at 34wks (cos his movements had virtually stopped and after being monitored very closely for 4wks) weighing 2lbs 10oz and although spent 3 wks in SCBU was a very healthy baby just small. He's now 3 and has caught up with his peers.

Just wanted you to know that even if there are problems that it can all be fine. Also as others have said it could be nothing because the Fundal height measurements are highly inaccurate.

Hope all goes ok at your appointment.

Thankyou ladies . I do wonder if i can hide them better now as I've had so many, you know because there's more room in the womb .

i'm 37 weeks 2day and we cant even discuss names or it just ends up in a silly argument as dp only suggests stupid names. We do have a girls name picked but cant decide on a boys name - think he is holding out on the hope that if it is a boy and we dont have a name then it will be named after him - not if i have my way!!

#sorry wrong thread!! Not quite sure how i managed that.

Haven't read this thread but just wanted to say that my sister (my mums 3rd) was also small for dates. She was born small (about 5.2 lbs on her due date) but perfectly formed after a totoally uncomplicated birth. My mum said it was the best birth out of all of us. She had no problems whatsoever.
