slapped cheek, 14 w pregnant

Hi mummies, so my 10 year old has had slapped cheek syndrome, I've never had it but I'm 14 weeks pregnant and reading up on it it can cause problems for pregnant ladies. Been to doctors.... They rang maternity unit..... It's now been passed on to a microbiologist cuz no one seems to know what screening I need!!!!! Has anyone else experienced being exposed slapped cheek while being pregnant?? Xx

I was exposed in my first pregnancy, I went to the doctors and they arranged a simple blood test. Took a couple days to come back but it showed that I had immunity - I didn't think I'd had it. The vast majority of adults in the UK have had it, it's a very common virus, just not frequently diagnosed as it's quite mild so most parents just think of it as a virus.

Have you had the blood test? In the unlikely case that it comes back and you don't have immunity, you should be offered extra monitoring and scans - again it's rare for it to actually cause a problem, snd the problems it can cause are treatable though obviously not good.

I was tested for this at my booking appointment as I came into contact with it around 9 weeks. I am going back in a couple of days for another one as the first wasn't 100%. 16 weeks now and also interested to see other replies as I've been worrying about it. Hope all is well for you OP x

When I was about 10 weeks pregnant my DS had slapped cheek. I was panicking as my mum thought I'd never had it.

I saw a GP, she arranged an urgent blood test and results were back the following day - I was immune. Apparently the majority of people have had it so fingers crossed that you have.

I had a blood test too. I was adamant I had never had it but looks like I have. Sometime symptoms are just flu like or so I was told by my doctor. Blood test results were just a few days too

Forgot to say but if you've had it, you are immune.

My little boy had it when I was 16 weeks pregnant (23 weeks now) and had to go in for an urgent blood test. Result came back that I hadn't been exposed to it but wasn't immune either. Had to go back 4 weeks later for another blood test to check that I hadn't contracted it just after the first test. All came back clear but if I come into contact with anyone that has it again then I have to go back in for more blood tests.

Thanks for replies, I don't think I've ever had it!! Anyway got phone call from doctors yesterday going for a blood test tomorrow!!! My doctors surgery is hard work!!
