Cotbed mattress - How much should I spend?

Nemz716 · 17/05/2016 17:09

Just wondering what people think is a reasonable amount to spend on a spring Cotbed mattress if you expect your child to sleep on it for 5 years?

They vary in price so massively, I'm feeling confused about how much to spend!

Any help or experience welcome!

Thanks Smile

I'd get the best you can afford, the same rule I'd apply to an adult's mattress. You want it to support your DC properly and last the distance.

We went for the pocket sprung mattress from John Lewis. 2 years on it is still in 'like new' condition (we use an additional waterproof sheet over it though), no sign of sagging etc. DD is very comfortable on it.

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and have just bought my babies mattress from ikea and it was £40. It's actually really really comfy and will last a while.

We got a lovely sprung one from babies r us which was half price at £79.99.

I've just bought a sprung mattress from tesco in the clubcard boost. It was £45.

BlueUggs · 17/05/2016 22:20

I paid £100 from eBay and it was great and fitted his toddler bed too, so he slept on it for almost 5 years.

I've bought a natural wool and coconut coir one with natural latex topper. Think it was ,£65 in the sale but we have a standard voy so wţ

TheLuckDragon · 18/05/2016 08:03

We got ours from Amazon and it was about £40

Stom91 · 18/05/2016 08:53

Got mine from amazon for £40. She only used it for 2 and a half years and she's no in a single bed so the cot bed can be used for the next one that's on her way

Cakeymum · 18/05/2016 15:13

We've got ours from Tescos - they have their clubcard boost on at the mo which helps. think we spent about £40 - 50 ish.

Agree with get the best quality you can afford. Have a look at the little green sheep organic mattresses. Strongly recommend their cotton waterproof mattress protectors too, whichever mattress you get - unprotected mattress + baby sick/wee/poo = disaster

StormyBlue · 24/05/2016 20:42

I think I have the same one as you Helen, DS has been perfectly comfy on it so far.

ohidoliketobe · 24/05/2016 20:46

Just got a pocket sprung one from argos, was half price £150 down to £75

Artandco · 24/05/2016 20:46

We had the little green sheep ones. Non toxic, super comfy. They were about £250. Used like you say almost 5 years so well worth it

Nessalina · 24/05/2016 20:49

If you get a good sprung mattress it's more likely to last the full 5 years. Foam type mattresses suffer the heavier the child gets, and you may need to replace - better to spend once than twice Smile
