When did you tell the older DC?

I am 6 weeks pregnant and feeling sicker by the day. Our older DC don't know yet, but I feel that it will soon be a struggle to keep things under wraps. They will soon notice my constant exhaustion and when/if I start vomiting regularly, I am not sure how I'll be able to keep that a secret!

I don't necessarily mind them knowing before the first scan, but they will be so excited that I doubt they will be able to keep schtum at school or with extent family! Dh and I would rather wait to tell the world at large until I'm in the second trimester.

I'm rambling. When / how / why did you tell your older DC about their future sibling?

I officially told my girls I was pregnant after my 20 week scan. I could also tell them they was having a little brother at the same time.

Same here... After 20 week scan. My daughter was a few weeks off 4 and is a very sensitive child... I'd have absolutely hated to have to tell her something wasn't quite right. It also made it easier In that family and friends weren't able to discuss it openly in front of her so stopped it being all 'baby baby baby' and her feeling pushed put or left behind. I had a hard time in early pregnancy but we just said I wasn't feeling well, had a tummy bug, headache etc. Kids tend not to question their parents on such matters!

As my son is 7, we told him as soon as we found out at 4 weeks, he read it on the digital test himself.He has been asking for a couple of years to be a big brother. Then we decided we're ready. Now 36.5 weeks and he loves the bump. Do what feels right for you

12 weeks!

18 weeks. Dc were various ages (5-23 yrs) but due to a previous MMC, I didn't want them to know until i was confident the pregnancy was ok.

I'm almost 20 weeks but I'm saying nothing for as long as I can. I also had a few missed miscarriages so I'm probably being over cautious - but I don't want to get them all excited until I feel more confident that it will work out. My eldest is 6 and he's still young enough that he doesn't question why I've been sick for so long - he sees it as the new normal me.

after the 20 week scan

As soon as I started to have a bump that would be obvious to others, even if not to my DC. I didn't want someone at nursery or school making a comment that would have confused them if they hadn't heard it from us first.

I was planning on waiting for the 12 weeks scan to tell DC 5 years old. However, I accidentally spoke to waitress about it front of him at about 10 weeks, I was trying to avoid mayonnaise with raw egg in.

Anyway his response was amazing, he said 'you have a baby in your tummy right now?! You should have told me! I am gonna love the baby and when I cuddle you I can cuddle the baby too'.

We then looked through my pregnancy book and youtube videos on fetal development. He loved this, as he loves science.

Plus if anything went wrong I would want to open with him as I would want to be honest about why mummy was sad.
