I'm 28 weeks and had another scan and not only is he the wrong way up but his a week bigger than should be, i'm not too worried about the position as there's lots of time for him to move but my son was 2 weeks early and weighed 8lb 13oz. Alot of people say they get bigger the move you have?!! should i be expecting a heavy load? its starting to feel like it!

Could anyone advise me? When you talk about being told your babies' weights, was this just an estimation done by feeling your abdomens, or do you mean you had scans late in pregnancy? I had an extra scan at about 21 weeks and was told my baby was pretty big from leg/head/tum measurments and they gave me an estimated weight. I'm interested to know how accurate this might have been..of course, he could be just average by now (33 weeks)..

my first one i was told by my midwife feeling my bump at about 36 weeks and she laughed when i told her i was hoping for a nice 7lb baby, she said i was having a 8lb plus baby which was true. With this one i was told at my scan at 28 weeks that he measured a week bigger. but its in the last few weeks that they grow the most, as that was when i got ALL my stetch marks!

I hope whenever I have my next it's not bigger as DS was 12lb 4oz! Not fat either, just enormous! He didn't sleep through till 9 months either and bf every 2-3 hours till he was on solids.

I had 2 scans late in pregnancy as I was consistently measuring large for dates and he was estimated to be around 10lbs. Needless to say he was a bit of a shock to everyone.

I induced at 41+3 and it turned into an emergency c-section because his head was tilted back and he wasn't coming down.

I had growth scan at 37 weeks as my bump was so big.

Told by obs that it would probably be 10 lber and early...

He was over 11 but was 41 weeks +6 days...

jampots · 13/01/2007 13:51

i had a scan with baby 1 at 38 weeks and a scan with baby 2 at 35 weeks

12lb 4oz respect.... I think

auntymandy · 13/01/2007 13:54

my smallest was 7lb 11 my biggest 10lb 2
last one 9lb 13 11 days early!!
Lets see what this one is!!

Ceolas · 13/01/2007 13:55

My DDs were 8lbs 12 and 8lbs 4. DS was 10lbs so dreading what this one will be. Do you think there's any relation at all to the amount of weight the mum gains in pregnancy?

auntymandy · 13/01/2007 18:56

no!
I put on about the same with all mine!

lisjane2 · 13/01/2007 21:29

i did put on a lot with ds but i've managed to not eat as badly this time but i'm just feeling heavier and get a bad back more.

I ate anything I could get my hands on with my lighter dd - stopped weighing myself at about 30 weeks as scales stopped working! DS was much fitter (running around after dd) and didn't put much on - Was mainly bump.

I was told when I had late scans that they aren't very accurate as they can only measure bone lengths and not fat deposits - so will be way out for tall skinny babies and plump ones. Both of mine were spot on though. (34 weeks and 36 weeks)

Olihan · 14/01/2007 20:25

Ds1 was 8lbs 8oz at 40+5, dd was 8lbs 4oz at 41+5 and ds2 was 10lbs 2.5oz at 40+1. I only put on 1 1//2 stone with each of them so for me it didn't make any difference with what I ate/gained.

With ds2 I was measuring 4 weeks ahead of my dates from about 30 weeks, had a scan at 35 weeks and they said he'd be over 9lbs at term, had a normal labour, 2 and a half hours from start to finish, 15 minutes of pushing and only a small tear on my scar from the first 2 labours. So I think Lulu's theory is pretty accurate.

I wouldn't be worried about the breech thing at 28 weeks, there's plenty of time for him to move - ds2 was unengaged and back to back at my mw appointment 7 hours before I went into labour! I know quite a few people who have been told their babies were breech at 34/35 weeks and they turned - if you get to 38 weeks then you can panic!

goblinqueen · 15/01/2007 08:54

I only put on the weight of DS and lotsa water as I got pre-eclampsia at the end.

Forgot to say, DS was transverse at 33 weeks, I actually felt him do a full rotation!

lulumama · 15/01/2007 09:00

the amount of food you eat will not dictate the size of baby ! you can starve yourself, but baby will grow , by leeching everything out of you.....conversely, eating loads will make you overweight , not the baby

do not make the mistake of eating less to keep the baby small! you will end up unwell if you do not eat properly.....

charliegal · 15/01/2007 09:09

My ds weighed 10lbs and I never looked particularly big and was told I was having an average sized baby. He is lovely and I don't think the birth was more difficult (maybe because I didn't know and just kept pushing ). I only had a 1st degree tear, which I think is because I didn't lie on my back to deliver.
The only strange thing about a big baby is when you see yours next to babies the same age, mine looks like king kong!!
He fed super well straight away too.

lisjane2 · 16/01/2007 20:46

oh his been turning fine, just think he was the wrong way when they scanned, he does most of his turning in middle of the night though and my stomach feels fit to burst from pressure of it!!
