Products not safe to use

This has just recently come to my attention! Creams, oils, deodorants tans that shouldn't be used! Anyone have a list of products rather than ingredients? I'm particularly interested in a safe tan as I have a wedding coming up! Tia

No idea. I used as little as possible and switched to the least toxic brands I could so Ecover or method cleaning stuff and faith in nature toiletries and Rock salt deodorant...

I wasn't aware that there was anything that hcps tell you to avoid. As such this will be your preference about how cautious (ott) you want to be

I use Cocoa Brown by Marissa Carter tan. The website says it's safe in pregnancy as its all natural ingredients. You can get it in Boots and Feel Unique. What creams and deodorant have you been told not to use?!

Thanks all. I haven't been told not to use anything in particular and it was only watching a couple of beauty bloggers on snapchat that are pregnant that brought this to my attention. One has given up tanning due to the ingredients & the other isn't using all these body & face products she received due to her pregnancy. Just made me worried!

This came up on my pregnancy+ app yesterday and said that fake tans are fine?
I guess it comes down to personal choice. Lots of people use natural deodorants/don't dye their hair etc regardless of pregnancy due to the chemicals used.

And so are most creams/body lotions. Deodorant not being safe in pregnancy is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. There's being a bit over cautious and there's down right silly.

I expect the deodorant thing comes from aluminium content of deodorants

Unless the fake tan (or any other cosmetic) actually says not to use in pregnancy on the bottle, I can't imagine there'd be an issue.

I read somewhere that mousse/cream fake tans are fine but to avoid spray types

Shit I'm still fake tanning!!! I've been using st tropez and now fake bake. Be good to know for sure.

Agreed ... I minimise the usage by creating homemade products as much as possible. Moisturiser, Liquid soap etc ... Makes a hell of a difference.

I'm going to be controversial here and say... I don't eat organic. I take drugs for arthritis because I have no choice. I live in London where the air quality is not good. I can't get too worried about this, I think the pollution is probably doing my unborn baby more harm than my moisturiser. I do get that deodorants etc seem to be pretty dangerous but equally there are a lot of risks out there.

Completely agree ... I live in London too and feel exactly the same but I'd rather cut out as much as I can. Besides, its not just about the baby. I changed the way I do things years ago and frankly, my concoction of shea butter, coconut oil and almond oil leaves my skin much smoother than any known moisturiser on the market .. No reason to go back to chemical infused nonsense.

T-gel shampoo has a warning on the back to consult your doctor before using in pregnancy. I didn't realise until I'd already used it a few times for a very itchy scalp! No idea what the reasoning is, I just stopped using it.

I'm still fake tanning! My midwife says there's no worry about it (and I only use the cheapy kind)... The only thing she said check was my anti-aging cream because some of them have high levels of vitamin a in them. I figured baby will give me wrinkles anyway so just threw out the cream and stopped fighting the cause

I'm a beauty therapist and have used all the major tans at work and none of them advise against use during pregnancy. So don't worry about that.
With skin care and bath products you need to be careful with aromatherapy oils so anything that has a high percentage should be avoided. Brands that I know you should avoid include Aromatherapy Associates, Decleor, Espa and Elemis. Having said that they do all have a lot of products within their ranges that are perfectly safe.
Generally most skin care is fine unless you use any products that contain things like Vitamin A, glycolic acid or salycilic acid.
Most things that you can bug off the counter in Boots/ super drug etc are fine.

I have worked in the skincare industry for years.
Unless specified on the bottle as being unsuitable in pregnancy, (some essential oils are not recommended to be used in pregnancy), you should be fine.
Go totally organic, paraben free etc if that's what you want to do but it's important to keep things in perspective.

You will eat/breathe in/be exposed to more harmful substances in a normal day than you will in months of applying face or body products.

To put things into perspective, there are more parabens in one strawberry than all the skincare you are likely to use in a day.

Don't worry too much. My friend works in health food shop, eats organic, uses all natural skin care, is generally particular and irritating, yet smokes at the weekends .
