Hiding a bump - dress for wedding

I'm going to a good friend's wedding and I'll be around 13/14 weeks. If all goes to plan then my work, and general friends, won't know until a week or so after that for various (work-related) reasons. It's my first and I don't know what to expect, but imagine I'll have something of a bump by then. I already have enough bloat to look several months pregnant some days!

It should be OK to cover up at work with jeans and long tops, etc but I'm struggling to find a dress smart enough for a wedding that will adequately cover up a bump. I'm a size 10 in case it helps. I can't wear black (makes me look like death) and would rather not have anything strapless as I think I'll be in maternity bras as of this weekend!

Any ideas?

I would say you probably won't have much of a bump, but could have a bit of bloating which might make people suspicious. Go for something floaty with a pattern so it's not clear if you are showing, and a bit more flattering on the bloat too!

I went to a family wedding when I was 2 weeks post conception and didn't know yet as it was too soon to tell. A few people said they thought I was pregnant at that point after we told them 10 weeks later

A dark shift dress is what you need. With a pattern. And a firm pair of tights.

I doubt you will have much of a bump.

But abstaining from alcohol might be a bigger giveaway.

I agree. There won't be a bump but good look explaining the lack of prosecco!

I went to a wedding at 13 weeks, wore spanx under a maximum dress, no one noticed.

I went on holiday at 14 weeks and was convinced I had a bump. But actually even in my swimsuit it really just looks like I'd had an overly large meal!
You'll be a lot more aware of the tiniest of body changes than anyone else, and with a first baby your tummy muscles will still be taught so the bump doesn't generally pop out til a few weeks later.
I agree that the avoidance of alcohol is far more likely to raise suspicion. In your shoes if anyone was nosey enough to query it, I said I had diarrhoea as nobody questions that! Not very glamourous but a bit more credible Han the 'antibiotics' or 'hangover' excuse.

Thanks! The alcohol won't really be a problem - I don't drink much in the first place and my husband and best friends (who will know by then and will be the people I spend most time with that day) will be drafted in to help cover the fact I'm not drinking. It's just everyone else I'm worried about - even a hint of a bump will have them asking questions as we've been married longest of all our friends and they've been expecting/harassing us to get pregnant for years!

I'll have a look at patterned shift dresses and floaty dresses today and see if I can find something.

Depends on your style but I think a maxi dress is usually a good bet - I went to a wedding 10 weeks pregnant and wore a full length quite fitted stupidly expensive dress that I could just still squeeze myself into---- (which will possibly never fit again??!!)...and despite my bloating the bride complimented me on my slim waist hahaha!! The moment I got in the cab to go home I had to undo the buttons at the waist because I was so uncomfortable! Lots of people barely show at 13/14 weeks but it just depends on you. Have fun!

Something fitted to the waist with a full/flared skirt would probably do it? I have always had a bit of a tum and this is my go to style for party dresses!

i think it's best to stick to a similar style of dress that you would normally wear - if you'd never wear an empire line maxi dress normally then that will raise more suspision than just wearing your usual style with a bit of a bloat/ickle bump. you might need a size up (for bloat/boobs), but i think anything too 'cover-up-y' is more obvious tbh!

chickieduck, that was my thoughts too - any ideas on key words to search for our good websites to go to? I ordered one by Lindy Bop from Elsie's Attic already but it was much softer and less structured than it looked in the picture and actively makes me look pregnant already!

I went to a wedding around the same time and just wore a patterned maxi dress. You couldn't tell at all. I think you think you're bigger than you are and you'll be surprised how little people notice. Good luck with your pregnancy

I think it's more in your mind that you look pregnant at this stage I know it was in mine. I was 13 weeks at Christmas and wanted to wear a dress but was convinced everyone would see my bump even though it was just the same size as I had before. I think knowing your pregnant makes you paranoid that other people will know. You could get a maternity dress, new look do some nice affordable ones. They will be bigger in the belly so should float nicely around the mid section but get your size because then it will still fit right in all the other places so won't look like you are wearing something too big, just floaty.

I wear fitted at the waist, full skirt dresses like chickieduck said - Monsoon usually have a few in this style.

I've realised that people at work haven't been noticing my bump (even though I'm not trying to hide it) because I often wear low hanging scarfs and these cover it up/disguise it. Any way you could work a pashmina or floaty scarf into your outfit?!
