haematoma at 11 weeks

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this. i started bleeding completely out of the blue this morning - no pain, but very heavy bleeding. I went to the hospital where everyone assumed I was having a miscarriage, and the nurse removed some large blood clots. I then had a scan, which to my surprised showed that the baby's heart was still beating and everything seemed fine. So they sent me home to rest. Am feeling ok - a small amount of crampy pain but nothing too awful, but I keep passing large blood clots. I really don't know what to do at the moment...
just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar...

Yes. It will most likely be fine. It's only a cause for concern if the hematoma is extremely close to the baby.

Yes, just assume you snd baby are fine. I had this too. There was lots of bleeding and a clot the size of my baby (they took a scan). The blood continued to come out for several days and baby stayed put. I now have a lovely 9 year old who I am so thankful for. It's scary though so take it very easy but try and be distracted/keep busy where you can. Be sure to talk to the doctor/midwife if you are needing reassurance. All the best.

I bled for England too! Huge pools of blood pumping and squirting. We saw a heart beat too which was reassuring

hello! thanks v. much for replying and for the reassurance. Good to know that the outcome of all this is not necessarily a terrible one! I'm feeling a bit better today and bleeding seems to have stopped - so perhaps it's not as awful as it all seemed yesterday. Fingers crossed. x

I have the same thing - I've been bleeding on and off since week 6 (am now 11 weeks). If the bleeding starts again (especially if red) then call your midwife or go to the EPU. My doctor has been reminding me to do this throughout. Take it easy for the next few days too....there's no evidence that rest 'helps' but it has certainly helped me, especially from a mental perspective! Good luck - it's stressful but as everyone says, it can work out ok.

Another one here. I started bleeding the day before Christmas Eve and we couldn't get scanned at the epu until that day. We call it our little miracle that it was a heamatoma which has no negative effects for the baby. Mine started wk 7 and I was bleeding until wk 11. Now 15 was and all going well.

While it is important that any bleed is flagged to doctors, there really should be more out there saying not to worry as much if there isn't obvious pain. I rang the miscarriage assoc who were brilliant, and while it was a hideous night bleeding (and there were pads of it) they were able to give some hope.

I had a subchorionic hematoma from 5+3 through the first trimester. At times the bleeding was so much I was sure it was all over. Huge clots and soaked pads etc. All was well on scans and I'm now 29 weeks.

One word of caution - sometimes first trimester bleeding can throw your bloods off a bit at the nuchal scan tests. I came back much higher risk for Downs due to my hCG being raised but a consultant explained later (after much worry!) that it was most likely a result of the hematoma.
