Gestational Diabetes and Metformin

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and after trying to control it with first I have been told I need to take Metformin.
I have looked online and there is conflicting information about the safety of this drug in pregnancy and it is even alluded that it can contribute to stillbirth. Does anyone have any experience or information regarding this drug. My diabetes Midwife is happy that it is safe, but I am still concerned.

Inositol does everything Metformin does for sugar control WITHOUT the side effects. Go to scholar.google.com and look for inositol gestational diabetes or inositol PCOS for studies about this -- my midwives say they "hand it out like sugar-free candy" now because of how very effective it is.

I took metformin for GD whilst pregnant. Had no side effects at all and got my blood sugar under control immediately. My daughter is now 11 weeks old. I'd not hesitate to take it again if I get pregnant again and end up having GD a second time.

I'm off to take the GTT this morning. Is GD quite common?

Gestational diabetes is becoming more common due to diet and lifestyle. Some areas have increased rates as Asian and black African/Caribbean women are more likely to develop it.

Metformin is very very commonly used for controlling diabetes. If you don't take it your rates of stillbirth will be extremely high due to uncontrolled diabetes

Thanks mummyme - I'm getting my results tomorrow, so I'll take it from there. I think I would be happy to take Metformin.
