Hi all, I'm 25 weeks and have developed SPD accompanied by such severe night time calf leg cramps that cause me to be virtually unable to walk the next day!
Now I know that anything other than paracetamol should be avoided, but I have done a LOT of research, and have found that methocarbamol is an FDA class C which states that it 'can' be used by pregnant women 'if' needed. There has been no animal or human studies (for obvious reasons) and the evidence they have gathered from the pregnant women that 'did' take this medicine while pregnant, had babies with no abnormalities or problems.....
I've argued my case with the doctor who point blank said "no, take paracetamol"
But they have prescribed me diazepam previously in this pregnancy for severe anxiety which is a FDA class D (which is one class 'higher a risk' than methocarbamol)
So obviously I'm confused as to why I am being told "NO!"
If my pain continues to get worse, then I will end up on crutches in tears at the doctors office begging/demanding they give me the muscle relaxer I've been asking for.....
Now I know some of you will be questioning the drugs safety, as the uterus is a muscle, and that you shouldn't be taking a muscle relaxer in case it causes premature labour,.....BUT methocarbamol is a 'skeletal' muscle relaxer, and only works on muscles that control the skeleton (NOT the uterus)
I've tried co-codamol (low dose) which does nothing, so I've stopped...dont want to take strong co-codamol as I don't want baby to be born addicted or with possible withdrawal symptoms!
Methocsrbamol is non-addictive so seems the safer option to me....???
PLEASE, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I'm going swimming, propping my bump up with maternity wedge at night along with maternity pillow between my knees/legs, doing pelvic floor exercises with birthing ball....just don't know what else to do...my pain is getting worse by the day, and I've still got 15 weeks to go so can only see things getting worse
