8 weeks, heavy bleed after good scan, don't know what to think!

Just that really. 8+1 yesterday, had scan on Monday at 7w due to history of MC and very slight spotting, baby there with a heartbeat, measuring correct for dates.
Walking through town yesterday and felt a gush of blood - ran to bathroom and and was bright red blood everywhere, soaked straight through pants and into trousers. Passed one 2p-sized clot which definitely wasn't pregnancy tissue and a couple of tiny clots. Had to do an emergency dash to boots for pads, bleeding continued to gush out every so often but in much smaller amounts - by the end of the day it hadn't quite filled a pad (although I did get urinary incontinence pads so pretty absorbent!). By last night it had tailed off to just brown and just when I wipe, it's the same this morning. No more active bleeding. Had no cramps at all and still have all my pregnancy symptoms. Definitely haven't passed the baby so I can only assume it's still in there, but other than that I don't know what to think!
Will ring GP tomorrow but not sure what they'll do considering I had a recent scan anyway.
Anyone had a similar experience? What was the outcome? Am happy to hear bad outcomes too as I'm still fully expecting this to end badly - after 2 MMC and a natural MC it was a shock to see a heartbeat at all. So am more than prepared for that possibility.

So, all I've got is that a private obs told me that once you see a heartbeat the chance of a successful pregnancy hits something around 95%. I thought this sounded pretty high, but anyway, I guess the point was that the heartbeat is the key success indicator, not getting to 12 weeks.

I had a similar sounding bleed experience at 6 weeks. I rang the doctors the next day who just said to call back if the bleeding started again (it didnt) and to take another pregnancy test after a week. It was horrible not knowing and waiting but I still had symptoms and test was positive. Not had any more bleeding so I'm just waiting for a 12 week scan date and assuming everything is ok (fingers crossed).

Hope this helps a little. Call your gp though they may not be any more helpful than mine. I assume you're still having a 12 week scan too?

I don't know, but given that you've experienced a lot more bleeding since the scan they should offer a re-scan. If they refuse I'd pay for a private scan if I were you. Fingers crossed for you x

The thing that would worry me was blood being bright red, personally I'd call your EPU , and ask to be seen. For one thing at least you need your mind put at ease. Explain the situation and history in sure they would see you.

Don't panic just yet. I know that's easier said than done.

but bleeding. even heavy bleeding doesn't necessarily mean a miscarriage.

I had huge amounts of bleeding in pregnancy. there was no way in my mind a baby could have survived what was happening. I was passing clots ranging from 5 p coins to packs of butter. it sometimes literally poured out of me.

I had something called a sub chorionic haematoma.

no cramps is a good sign . it started at 11 weeks not 8 weeks but it carried on to varying levels fir several weeks.

I would call and arrange a re scan but don't assume the worst just yet.

oh and that baby is a healthy 5 year old now. there is hope until they tell you otherwise

I had miscarried when this happened to me. Hopefully that isn't what's happening to you. I think you should seek immediate medical advice though.

I had 2 mc's, then when pg with my daughter at 13 weeks, 3 days after our 12 weeks scan where I was just starting to tell people, had a massive bleed. Big gush of blood, couple of small clots. Didn't carry on.

Got Sent to a and e, where a lovely doc took pity on me because of history and got them to open up scan unit at 1 am to check out baby. All well, they couldn't explain the bleed with anything substantial, just said probably bits that weren't needed (?!) and might have a few trickles more.

I didn't, all was well, she's just turned 2 and is very excited about 'kissmas'.

Hoping it all goes the same for you... Definitely push for a scan asap as they can check out the sac etc and tell you if any more bleeds are likely (as far as they can check anyway).

I had a scan at 7 weeks in my last pregnsncy and everything was fine. However I had a bright red bleed a week later - and I mean bright red. It filled the toilet bowl. I was on holiday in the Maldives too so there was literally sod all I could do about it. I was convinced I had lost the baby. However I had a private scan as soon as we flew home and it showed that all was fine. I would get another scan if I were you. It's a long wait until 12 weeks.

I'm sorry, it wasn't good news for me. I had a 6 week and 8 week scan due to previous miscarriage / complications and at both saw heartbeat / measuring correct for dates.

Two days after the 8 week one had a rush of bright red blood which was the start of a miscarriage.

I do know a friend who had this at 9 weeks and her DD is now three.

I'd try and get a scan first thing.

Thank you all so much for your replies, I'm rh- so expecting to need a trip to hospital tomorrow anyway to be stabbed in the bum. Will ring first thing and see what GP says. My EPU is referral only afaik. Have been out and about all day and still no more bleeds, don't want to get my hopes up but don't want to write this pregnancy off mistakenly either!

How did you get on?

Well apparently they don't give anti-D for bleeds under 12 weeks any more under new guidelines. GP referred me to EPU. Went for my scan this morning fully expecting the worst, told the woman that this would be MC number 4. Even the techs were like "so we're probably expecting bad news here".
The baby is perfect, measuring right on track with a heartbeat! She looked everywhere and no explanation for the bleed, everything on the inside looks fine apparently. Just one of those things. I am absolutely in shock. Sobbed my eyes out!
Hopefully anyone in the same situation who comes across this post will find a bit of reassurance. It really doesn't always mean the worst! That's my Christmas miracle sorted anyway
