Agony in ribs?

Hi. Nearly 34 weeks (yay!) and for a few weeks now I've had agonising stabbing pain under my right breast, rib area I guess. I can be just standing still and it feels like being stabbed with a knife. It's hindering what I can do, to the point I'm only really comfortable on the sofa/in bed (comfy to a point!). Just in pain ALL the time.

It's not pre-eclampsia, I'm being monitored very closely for this as I had it in January leading to 36 week delivery. Is it my stomach muscles? I'm in so much pain I can't cope any more. Have mentioned it a few times at appointments but no one seems to be bothered about it.

Any ideas? Paracetamol doesn't help at all.
Thanks x

Especially if your being monitored for pre eclampsia I'd be worried because there was a thread on here years ago when a women said the same got told to go get checked and epigastric pain was the only sign and I believe she delivered a healthy but very prem baby that day. So be carefull and it could be worth getting checked good luckFlowers

Hiya, I had this. They tried to tell me it was indigestion - it was HELLP Syndrome, a form of pre-eclampsia. Luckily the hospital were more aware of the symptoms and I had my son a couple of days later. This was nearly 10 years ago.

I am not saying this is what it is, but would be best to monitor it especially if you start vommiting.

Hope it all goes well :-)

I had this, it's going to sound awful after reading some of the replies, I thought it was just part of it so I didn't do anything about it at all and like you say I mentioned but no one really said to much. I gave birth to my perfect health baby on spot on her due date. If it is what I had I really hope it goes away its really not nice m, good luck Flowers xx

Do you think it could be bruising from the baby kicking?

Also a strange question but have you got wired bras? I find wired bras really dig in especially if too small due to weight gain and breasts getting larger. Perhaps try a sports type bra or a bra without an underwire?

When was the last time you had your BP/urine checked?

I get mine checked every 2 weeks from now on (26 weeks) as had pre-eclampsia in my first pregnancy.

I also have rib pain - particularly at night - it's unbearable!

I found this article helpful: www.newkidscenter.com/Rib-Pain-During-Pregnancy.html

I don't have a history of pre-eclampsia, so I'm not suggesting you shouldn't follow up if you have concerns, but I do think this is very common due to stretching ligaments and the body starting to (ironically) relax.
