Being induced on Thursday - any experiences/advice

Hi all, I'm being induced on Thursday so was wondering what it was like for other people. Will they send me home?

Depends why and how you are being induced.
Some hospitals give you a pesery monitor you and baby for a while then send you home to see what happens (if you have an uncomplicated pregnancy)

Some hospitals will want you to stay in until babys born.
If you are already dilated then they will more then likely just break your waters and may add a drip to speed labour along.
I've had both and 3 out of 5 pregnancies had to be induced.
My experiences with both was ok, it wasn't a walk in the park but not as bad as I thought it would be.
Go with an open mind, don't be scared to ask what and why are they doing certain things.

I've just had my baby this week - and was induced. the above poster has summarized the methods, fairly succinctly! They didn't want to break my waters as the babies head was not engaged.

Ask any questions when you are being told of your options and do not hesitate to ask them again if you feel you do not understand!

My birth and labour were fine and felt no different to my my previous two birth, where i had 'spontaneous' labours.

Do not build up fear - try and stay calm as that will help you in labour.

I'm being induced on Monday with DC2.
I was induced with DD too, had the pessary which worked (very well!) after 6 hours. Was quite intense from the get go but then I labored in my back.
It depends where you are I think on whether they'll let you be induced as an outpatient. They do where I am but I have to be an inpatient because I'm epileptic, depends on your risk status etc I suppose!

Just wanted to say my induction and subsequent labour were really positive. The pessary worked for me so didn't need anything else and all progressed really text book and fairly speedily. I know there are lots of dread stories around induction but it was all fine here. I was in full labour and almost at pushing stage by late evening, but they said I would have had to stay in anyway - it seemed to depend where you live. Good luck!

I was induced with DD. Had the pessary and waters broken which were unsuccessful, then had drip which worked and made for a pretty straight forward labour. All in all DD was delivered with forceps in 8 hours from start to finish. I did stay in two nights prior to being induced and one night once DD was born. The experience as a whole wasn't all too bad, although I don't have the experience of a natural birth to compare induction to I wouldn't necessarily object to being induced with my current pregnancy (currently 36+6). The only advice anyone can give is to stay calm and remember you will have your little bundle at the end of it. Each delivery regardless of the methods used truly are different and so stay positive and try to just go with the flow where possible. Best of luck!!

I was induced and had the pessary, which didn't work. I then had the drip (sintocin?), which worked well. It is apparently very intense, but it was my first (and only), so I have nothing to compare the labour to. FWIW it didn't seem bad to me.

For me labour lasted for 9 and a half hours from beginning to end.
