black tie party at 20 weeks

It's my husband's work Christmas party. Big event, over night stay in a hotel (not same venue but close by) dinner, full drinks package, late finish, posh frocks.

Would you go? It's a once a year opportunity for us to do something like this with an overnight stay and childcare for our ds. I'm currently 11 weeks and in the middle of sickness and nausea and extreme fatigue so it's hard to think that I'd be up for a big night out. How long would you last for the night? Also what's it like being at a function when you are the only sober one!

Lastly, at 20 weeks will I have a proper bump,.rather than just look fat? It's so long since my previous pregnancy with ds. I know it's vain but I'd like to look nice So any ideas about how to dress for my shape? I'm a size 14 pre pregnancy and this is my second so expecting to show earlier.
Thanks in advance

I would definitely go! But I went to a wedding at 24 weeks and was last woman standing at 4am when everyone else was drunk and incoherent.

In my pregnancies I've had dreadful first trimesters where I've been throwing up non-stop and in bed by 7pm, and heavy, tiring third trimesters. The middle bit, though, has been great. (i know others aren't so lucky).

I also enjoy being the only sober one. I like being in control and am also confident enough to dance, chat and be outgoing without needing a drink first. But again, I know others aren't so comfortable in social situations without booze.

As for the bump, it's impossible to say. In my first pregnancy I was barely out of my normal clothes at 20 weeks, and had a pretty small bump - but massive boobs.

This time round I'd even grown out of some mat clothes at 20 weeks. The bump is humongous. Everyone, and every pregnancy, is different IMO.

I would definitely go! I'm going to mine when I will be 35 weeks!!

For me the first 14 weeks have been the worse so fingers crossed you feel better soon x

Jeffreythegiraffe · 14/10/2015 21:26

Of course! I went to a wedding six months pregnant and had a great time, yes I was sober but I still danced as much as anyone.

If you're tired you could always go back to the hotel.

wonkylegs · 14/10/2015 21:32

I went to a wedding at about then when I had DS it was fab.
in my first pregnancy I didn't have much of a bump just looked a bit thicker round the waist. This pregnancy and at 9+6 I'm clearly pregnant and have a proper little bump. I'm finding it hard to disguise as we don't want to tell anybody until after our scan (due to previous bad news)

I'll be 30 weeks for mine, dreading finding something to wear that doesn't resemble a tent!

ALR123 · 14/10/2015 22:47

I've decided against my xmas party as I'll be 36 weeks pregnant, it's In Birmingham City centre and I don't want to have to buy a huge dress that I'll never wear again. Bah humbug.
at 20 weeks I'd almost certainly go still... you'll have a bump but it's unlikely you'll be huge. I went out for a friend's birthday into some nice bars at 20 weeks and had a great night! Try and make the most of any nights out while you are still able to enjoy them because they are getting few and far between for me with every week that passes!

Difficult to say as everyone is different.
I went to a wedding when I was 20 weeks preg with dc3 and just looked a bit chubby round the middle. I wore an empire line dress, which was very flattering and meant I didn't worry about my bump fat tum

dizzylemon · 15/10/2015 10:01

I'll be just ahead of you at my works Christmas party. Will be without hubby, but I'm pretty chummy with my workmates anyway and pretty sure I will get looked after. I will also, thankfully, have a hotel room.

I've actually already started to wear maternity (at 15 weeks) or at least been using the elastic band trick on jeans. Most of it is bloating though as I am fine in the mornings! And seeing as how hubby is army, I'll need a nice tent dress for his partys as well so don't think I'll begrudge spending the money on something with a bit more room.

Looking forward to it. My drunk colleagues will be entertaining for sure!

I was at a wedding at six months. It was tiring but I enjoyed it and it was our last weekend away pre baby.

No issues with being the only sober person there, got a nice frock from asos and looked OK :)

Wear comfy shoes though, :)

GO! Why not? By then the chances are you'll feel much better. I went to a ball around ?25 weeks (so bad at remembering dates) and had a great time, lasted til 3am which amazed me! I wore a dress I had already which was in stretchy fabric so fitted my boobs and small bump; I thought I looked really pregnant, but not many other people noticed apparently! Def wear flat shoes though! :)

Go Smile and have a great time. I got married at 13 weeks pregnant and had a brilliant time.

Dress up, and enjoy the treat. Everyone will understand if you get worn out and they will probably treat you like a queen.

FWIW I am 20 weeks and was a size 18 pre preg. I have a very definite bump.

angstridden2 · 15/10/2015 13:08

I was at a Christmas disco at 8.5 months, with my hospital bag in the boot of the car in case. Had a great time. There are some beautiful cheapish maternity clothes you can buy that will take you from 20 weeks to blue whale stage. In the olden days we all wore stuff like marquees.
