Scan - baby size? Big baby?

Hi there. I'm just looking for some advice/opinions/info. I'm pregnant with my second child but third pregnancy. At my scan of 20 weeks all pointers/markers such as femur length and head circumference measured "slightly above the average" however, the abdominal circumference was off the scale. When I spoke to the sonographer and registrar about my concerns over size of baby, they said it doesn't mean much. When I questioned my midwife, she suggested that a glucose test be done at some point. Does anyone know if a large abdominal circumference of baby is an indication that it will be a big baby? I've had no measurements on my tummy and I've probably gained a stone and a half. I eat pretty much what I want (a bit greedy) but healthy bmi. I am approaching 29 weeks gestation. Thank you for that. I'll try and search for that. My first child was 2 weeks late and 6lbs 13oz but people tell me not to rely on that either. Just a bit anxious I guess.

DD1 had a mid sized tummy and was 9.5lbs, DD2 had a large tummy and was 8lbs 13 oz.

For what it's worth I found head size to be more of an issue, DD1 had s humongous head and it was far more painful than a large tummy if you are worried about birth.

Dd1 had (alleged by scan) giant chest circ and was 8lb 6oz. They told me she was going to be up to 10lb 13oz and made me have ELCS.

Both DS1&2 measured exactly the same as you've described. Both went overdue by 12 days.
DS1 was 7lbs3 and DS2 was. 9lbs15.

A larger tummy at this stage can be a sign of gestational diabetes which is why your midwife suggested a glucose test. Measures are now quite accurate. If you are in England then As your over 25 weeks the midwife should measure your tummy and plot it on to your GROW chart which is now a national standard (you should have been given his at your dating scan). The midwife will plot your symph to fundal height of your tummy, if it's anything other than normal she will refer you for a scan. The sonographer will then plot the fetal weight of baby of the same GROW chart. By using these GROW charts Within my trust they are discovering that midwifes have been incorrectly measuring the patients. Once babies are being born they are being compared to the sonographers estimated weight of the baby. We are almost always exceptionally accurate with our measurements.
If it was just over average but still normal they will don't anything bar the GTT test for you. Rely on the GROW chart not the measurements of baby.

That's interesting poppies. I wasn't in England but was being scanned every day for the last two weeks. Are the results from your trust being reflected across England?

Thank you ladies. Blue wisteria - thats interesting to know that the differences were opposite to what I'd expect. I'm not sure about the birth as I'm undecided about an elective c section (first one was a traumatic birth which led to emergency c section). Thanks madwoman, I'll go back on the thread and have a read. Hi Poppies, I'm at NUH (Nottingham) and consultant lead due to Edwards syndrome in first pregnancy. None of them looked at the plots on the scan and it was I who had to bring up the subject. Thank you all ladies xx

When you say off the scale do you mean over the 95th centile?

I also tested negative for gestational diabetes but I was tested late. Blood sugar tests on DS2 after birth all came back negative. He's just a big baby, he's 7 weeks now and in 3-6 month clothing.

Just urine tests so far which are negative. I see the midwife on Wednesday xx
