Can you tell your baby's position?

I'm 29wks and baby is determined to hang around on the right-hand side. It's often rock hard on that side and soft on the left. I rarely feel kicks on the left. I'm wondering if the hard patch is a bum or head or legs.

How can you tell if baby is head down, breach, or transverse? Just interested in how the midwives work this out as I can't seem to recognise which hard patches are what just yet! Grin

I had a head stuck by my ribs last night was so uncomfortable. Although she's been there since my midwife appointment the day before thank fully she has now moved. Sometime I can feel a foot or bum stick out but I don't know her exact position if that makes sense. X

I can often feel rock hard parts of my belly and softer parts. I think I have been able to tell where the head is cos its the biggest roundest hard bit (if that makes sense). Was at 31 week appointment on Monday, midwife had a good hard squeeze (they are so rough with the bump, I wanted to squeal at her to mind the baby!) and said she could feel the head pointing down (good good) and the bottom further up facing outwards. I certainly wouldn't be able to be that precise but guess that's her job!

Definitely feeling the pressure of the head down low in the bump now!

Not certain that I know exactly what baby's position is but I feel kicks on one side more than the other and on 29 weeks midwife listened to the heartbeat and where I though the head was the midwife confirmed the same 30+3 I'm sure it's getting cramped in there so don't think the position is going to change much ( she says!

I am 34 weeks and baby seems to be moving between breech and transverse. Feet are always on my right and the head moves from left side to under rib on a daily basis! At 31 weeks student midwife told my midwife I was head down. (Only a student has looked at me at every appointment but as I am under consultant I am not worried). I was pretty sure the student was wrong but as I had a growth scan booked at 32 weeks didn't mention it. Scan confirmed baby is breech.
