A few times in the last week I've had sharp pains in my lower back when I move. I do a physical job so it could just be that but I've just tried to do a pregnancy Pilate's DVD and lifting my right leg I got the same pains so I gave up in case I was making something worse. I'm almost 23 weeks and just starting to get a proper bump so could this be the start of SPD or is it likely to be general achynesss?

Could be either. Is this first baby? It tends to happen quicker in subsequent pregnancies

I experienced the same pains around that time, but it wasn't until 25 weeks that it became excruciating to move some hours, tolerable the next. Do not ignore the pains; they will get worse. Do what I avoided until recommended by a doctor: wear supportive maternity tights, lose any heels and most importantly SLOW DOWN. Talk to work about it, make a doctors appointment (NOT midwife) to get checked over. Your body is telling you to slow down, it will only get worse by ignoring it.

Hopefully it is not SPD, as there's not a whole lot we can do except have a supportive band fitted. I genuinely hope you find a way to cope; those not going through it have no idea how debilitating it can be.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the replies, yes it is my first pregnancy.
I will go and see the doctor if it continues next week. Don't think there's much I can do about work unless I get really bad as the horses still need mucking out and I'm the only one that works there but I can take it slowly and I am planning on finishing fairly early ( about 28/29 weeks) so hopefully things won't be too bad before then!
