Panicking over white spirit

I'm 21 weeks and stupidly used white spirits before to get paint off something, I was only in contact with it for about 2 minutes while I put it on a sponge and wiped the paint off and I did it outside in the garden. I only really smelt it a tiny bit as I was outside so I was obviously well ventilated. I really just didn't think but as soon as I'd used it I washed my hands and anywhere that had contact with it (a little bit dripped on my leg but I washed it straight away).

Surely such little exposure won't be any harm? I've text my midwife to check, I've got myself into such a panic!

What harm do you think it might do?

HarrietSchulenberg · 08/08/2015 16:12

As long as you've drunk it or snorted it you'll be fine.

Frillsandspills · 08/08/2015 16:12

I was told straight after you mustn't use it during pregnancy so I'm not entirely sure. Quick look on google suggest it could potentially harm your baby so I panicked straight way. I'd rather sound like I was being ridiculous but be reassured than panic over it, I'm constantly anxious about everything as it is!

Just think of all the expecrant mums who decorate their baby's bedrooms and clean their brushes with white spirit- all fine. You'll be fine, relax.

Frillsandspills · 08/08/2015 16:15

Thank you Bike didn't even think of that, glad I'm obviously panicking over nothing!

I was covered in white spirit at 18 19 and21 weeks with decorating the house and at one point had a bathfull of white spirit with painting stuff cleaning in it overnight. Im sure you will be fine you didn't drink it sk should be fine xx

Frillsandspills · 08/08/2015 16:36

Oh thank you! Thinking about it rationally now I don't have a clue why I panicked, I just assumed the worst and what somewhat agreed with by google.. Shouldn't have bothered looking into it!

I'm 33 weeks and have been using it to get gloss of my paintbrushes after decorating. The thought didn't even cross my mind and I'm certainly not worried my baby has been harmed. I haven't been drinking it so not sure what harm it could actually do whilst I'm in a well ventilated room.as everyone else has said, you will be fine.

frills I have been decorating in sporatic bursts over the past few weeks and have been covered in white spirits, try not to worry. Keep the room well ventilated etc

Hi frills and spills, can you tell me what you midwife advise about this? I washed paint off my hands with white spirit and some must have got under my watch and when I got to work I realised and it had made my arm all red! Now found out I am 5 weeks pregnant and really worried!

May I ask how your baby is doing now? I kind of did the same thing and I am panicking as much
