Extremely painful breasts

My wife is 20 weeks pregnant and both of her breasts are very painful - one extremely so. She has been in tears with it today. I said she might have some sort of infection in the milk ducts but she thinks this isn't possible. I told her to see a doctor asap but she wants to wait until she sees the health visitor Friday.

Anyone able to give any insight?

Thanks in advance.

It could be mastisis. The health visitor won't be of much help, better to see the GP.
Savoy Cabbage leaves inside her bra (yes it sounds silly but it is recommended a lot!)
She can also use hot and then cold flannels. Massage the breasts - pushing down (could be painful) towards the nipple. Especially to do this on the most painful areas. This will make her express the milk.
A GP can give antibiotics.
If she leaves it she could develop a temperature, be feverish. And at worse an abscess (which is f**king painful!! But luckily uncommon)

Having just been in intensive care with mastitis which lead to sepsis, is advise her to have it checked by a GP! It can be very nasty if left untreated.
