Hi all, it's my 20 week scan tomorrow (I was 20 weeks last Friday) and this is my 4th pregnancy after 3 miscarriages.
I'm terrified about it and I just don't know what to expect at all; I'm also desperate to know what I'm having and my partner doesn't want to know it's all getting a bit much x

Sorry about your losses op. The 20 weeks scan takes longer and is much more detailed than the 12 week. At mine the sonographer stayed very quiet throughout the start of the scan and this is nothing to worry about, they need to do several measurements, baby's head, abdomen etc and look at the vital organs. When all's well you then get a guided tour of your uterus! You will need to decide if you're going to find out the gender though.

Thanks Nicky - I've worked myself into a right state.
My partner has just said if it's important to me we'll find out but I'm more worried they'll find a problem with the baby.
I'm just wishing it was over and done with and it was this time tomorrow x

I've also had 3 miscarriages and had my 20 week scan last month. I remember being terrified before it. And an extra pang of fear as I recognised the sonographer from when he diagnosed my 2nd miscarriage.
I decided not to look at the screen when he was doing all the checks. (There's a check list of anomalies they need to go through - including heart chambers, bladder function, stomach function, cleft palette, club foot) and this needs the sonographers full attention and takes what seems like forever. So I clasped my DH's hand and waited til the checks were done before looking.
Thankfully we got full marks! And then the sonographer gave us a tour of our baby explaining everything (but we are keeping the sex a surprise so he avoided that area) and it is INCREDIBLE! So much more detailed than the 12 weeks and you'll be amazed at just how much like a new born the baby looks.
The sonographer remembered us also and said that the best part of his job is when he gives good news to couples after they've been through the hearache we have.
It's normal to be very anxious with your history, but it's so brilliant you're this far along.
i hope everything goes perfectly abd you enjoy seeing your baby again.

Bella I'm on my 4th pregnancy after 3 mc's too.

I've got my 12 wk scan next week and I am totally feeling your fear and I'm sure I will feel exactly the same for the 20 wk scan.

Good luck !! Flowers

Lots of luck for tomorrow, hope you have an amazing scan and are able to enjoy some of it. It IS nerve racking but remember you are far more likely to get good news than anything else.

Good luck with your scan today.

Echoing what others have said, its perfectly normal to be anxious. I was, very much so, without any warning at all. Also, yes it can take quite some time to do the checks and importantly, don't worry if they can't do them all. At mine, baby was in an awkward position and would not move, so i had to go back another time for heart kidneys and spine checks. This is very common. Which I didn't realise at the time.

Morning - thanks everyone for your kind words and support I'm trying to be positive.
I'm just getting ready for work now - my appointment isn't until 3pm so not exactly sure how productive I'll be before I go but need to go in so will just try to keep busy;
I'll post later to let you know how I get on xx

Hey,
My scan was fine - the baby is ok and my measurements are exactly as they should be for 20+4 so we were thrilled.
The 20 week scan took about 30-40 minutes and the sonographer was great and explained everything as she was going along - I think she sensed I was nervous!!!! I was very relieved to go to the bathroom when she'd finished tho!!!!
We also got to find out that it was a little girl so that was lovely too - and my Mum came with us which was special too as scans were nothing like they are today when she had me 35 years ago!!!!

When you've had miscarriages going for scans is stressful as often you associate them with hearing bad news.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and support. Flowers

Brilliant! Not long til you get to give your daughter a cuddle and after all you've been through that will be a very lovely cuddle indeed.
