Have just received the news that I've failed my glucose tolerance test. Have been referred to the specialist, but am quite worried as have no real idea what this could mean - am I likely to end up with diabetes for the rest of my life? Am 25 weeks pregnant. Anyone else been through this and can give me some information?

At 25 weeks it is probably gestational diabetes rather than previously undiagnosed type 2. It normally disappears after giving birth but does leave you at higher risk of developing type 2 later in life. I recommend having a read through this thread, it helped me to understand it more while waiting to see the consultant. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2295140-Gestational-diabetes-support-thread there's also some info on the NHS and diabetes UK websites.

Thanks changing, I'd looked for info on here about GD, but hadn't come across this thread. Will read through it and hopefully it will help calm my nerves!
