Haemorrhoids - any good news???

I've a massive external haemorrhoid. I can't walk with it. The pain is unbelievable. I was prescribed a steroid suppository on Monday but they've done nothing. It's getting bigger if anything. My DH is taken holidays from work to look after me. Has anyone had this? Will it get better? I'm dispairing with it.

Ah I feel your pain :-( I had the joy of one hugemongous one a few weeks ago, didn't sound as painful as yours but was still horrible. I was using the cream for about a week before I saw an improvement. Also, might be obvious but can you work out what might be causing it? For me I realised that it had appeared a week or so after starting pregnacare tablets, I think the iron in them had messed up my system a bit. Just over a week after stopping them and using the cream and it is is a lot better.

Hope it improves for you, why can't we just be all blooming and glossy haired etc from pregnancy?!

I had one and was prescribed anusol, apart from resting and using that there's not much you can do. Take a nice warm bath without soap. It'll go away in a couple of days x

Thank you. Unfortunately I ended up in a&e today with them. I had to have them opened and squeezed/drained. I only had gas and air for pain relief. It was horrific. My DH got weak.
Home now and the pain is just unbearable but I can only take paracetamol. So mine is not a good news story

Unless you're allergic you should be able to take codeine OP (co-codamol or similar- stronger than just paracetamol).

You poor thing. But I was going to suggest you may end up having to get them incised and drained. It's hellish but ultimately you'll feel muuuuuuch better. Realise it doesn't feel like that yet!

Thanks Marina. I feel better today. It's wound pain which is different to humongous bulging haemorrhoid pain. I don't think we have co codamol here in Ireland.

It's called panadeine (solpadeine is the same but contains caffeine) or solpadol (stronger version) in Ireland. Glad you're feeling a bit better today!

Cheap tip top lollies. You know the ones in a plastic tube? Wrap in gauze and apply. Not the most pleasant thing to do with them but will help you.
