38 +4 baby's movements have increased dramatically, should I be worried.

Hi all, as my status says I'm 38+ weeks and my baby's movements have suddenly changed. Today she has been so active, on a regular day she is very active but for some reason today she cannot stop moving. I also have really loose bowels sorry tmi and I'm exhausted and have a terrible headache. should I be concerned at all?

I would ring your midwife and see what they suggest. I don't think you need to be concerned but best just to check what they think x

Call your midwife if you at all worried but I have heard that sometimes just before labour a baby's movements can either increase or decrease. Still best to check though.

Ring your midwife ASAP. They will advise you accordingly

Any change in movements should be checked. I'd ring to be sure.

Yes the advice is any change in the usual pattern of movements should be checked out. Hopefully the baby is just getting into position but it should be checked out via the midwife or labour ward.

As per all previous posters I'd call the midwife or if you live nearby call into your maternity unit. When I was towards the later stages of pregnancy I was advised to keep am eye out for any changes in usual movement pattern, not just a reduction in movement.
Your baby is probably just getting itself into a nice position ready for it's arrival!

Thank you all for the replies, I have spoken to the midwife who said to just keep an eye on the movements so that's what I'm going to do. Also been advised if movements don't return to normal by tomorrow to call her back. But tomorrow seems a long time concerning movements

I am 38+2 and I have noticed the same kind of thing, although I have an anterior placenta so before now I haven't felt an awful lot but the last few days she's moving all over the place. I have limbs coming out in all direction. If your worried I would definitely keep an eye and if your not happy waiting for tomorrow I would ring triage they are more than happy to put your mind at rest. I saw the midwife today as she was happy with baby's movements! Good luck and hope labour come soon for you!

If you feel properly worried and still have a headache, then just pitch up at the unit or even A+E. I'm surprised she didn't want to check you over tbh, if only to reassure you.

Thankfully the headache has now subsided, it's just the movements giving me a reason for concern. But think your all right, if I'm still concerned I will get OH to take me hospital, when e gets home from work within the hour.

No! Your MW is wrong! Please insist on being checked properly with monitoring.

Increased movements are just as important as decreased movement, and can indicate distress in the baby.

In all likelihood, everything is fine, but please insist on being checked with urgency. I dont want to sound dramatic but it is really important

an increase or a decrease in babies movements should be checked out at the hospital, it can mean the baby is in distress. sorry if that is alarming, it might be nothing and just means the baby has moved but always get it checked, you know your body and your baby best.

Hi, just want to update I rang the triage as I was still concerned and advised to continue to keep an eye on the movements. I done this but still wasn't happy to be fair, so I went in and got checked over. All is fine, thankfully. Maybe I'm just an extra panicky as I don't know what I'm doing as I'm a first time mum. But thank you all for your replies and to help encourage me to get movements checked out.

You did the right thing in getting checked. IME Health professionals would rather check you even if all is absolutely fine, than risk missing something wrong. Glad all is ok, so you can relax and sleep .

Glad you're all ok but as an aside, the same happened to me - change in movements, loose bowels and a thick head at 38 + 5. Baby was here by the morning!

I went to my midwife yesterday and mentioned the same thing that my baby’s movements had increased since Saturday 3 days ago. I’m 38 weeks pregnant and she didn’t seem concerned at all and warned me that if he’s movements decreased that I should ring right away. I would still ring your midwife just to be on the safe side but that’s what my midwife said to em, hope this helps 🙂
