I go in on Thursday for my section. I've to go in tomorrow morning and Wednesday morning for steroid injections. Does anyone have experience with these and are they sore? I read one woman saying she found them agony Confused x

I'm not going to lie to you, they aren't pleasant, the needle itself is fine, it's the steroid going into the muscle which is a bit "oh f*ck" and your arse is a bit sore after. Just try and relax, the first one wasn't as bad as I was more relaxed, the second hurt a little more because I tensed up.

They are a bit painful but it wears off very fast! I had it in both my pregnancies. My sons were born premature but neither had any breathing problems, so it was definitely worth having.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 11/05/2015 18:09

It's hurts a bit but not as much as everything else after a section! My premature DS was able to stay with me as his lungs were ok so thinking of how good it is for baby will get you through it

Bouncey · 11/05/2015 18:31

I don't remember it being painful... Although that might be because everything pales into insignificance after a drug free labour - unintentionally drug free as I'd fully planned to avail of pain relief but I was 10 cm dileted before my midwife realised I wasn't just being a hysterical first time mother!

Lolimax · 11/05/2015 18:34

Yup sorry they hurt but so worth it! Good luck x

VenusVanDamme · 11/05/2015 18:37

I don't remember them much so I assume they didn't really hurt. DS was premature but had no breathing/health issues so they're definitely worth any pain. Good luck!

AwfulBeryl · 11/05/2015 18:40

They're not that bad, yes they hurt but not what I would call agony.
It's similar to the contraceptive injection - if you've ever had it.
Well worth it in the long run.
Good luck Thanks

I had the first injection in my thigh. The nurse who did the second injection suggested I have it in my bum as it would be less painful... It was! So I recommend having them in your bum :)

Autumn2014 · 11/05/2015 19:17

Yes, and they made me flushed around my face and neck and my heart a bit racy . I had.them at 31 weeks. 2 doses 24 hours apart.

Rebecca1608 · 11/05/2015 20:42

Yup quite painful more of a sting. I had mine friday and saturday last week. Had the first 1 in my thigh (which left me with a dead leg for a short period of time) and the second 1 in my arse which made me bleed a bit but worth it and tbh i've known worse pain.

FallenOnHardTimes · 11/05/2015 20:54

Not particularly sore, in my experience. I had both injections in my bum cheek, so maybe ask if that's possible. It was similar to a normal vaccination injection. A bit of a prick, and then a cold feeling, but definitely not proper pain (let alone agony!). There was no pain afterwards. Just try not to tense up. Chatting to the nurse throughout helps to keep your mind off it, I find!

hullywully · 12/05/2015 06:55

They were awful but remember why you're doing it. It's also over in seconds. Mine didn't work. My daughter came out at 34 weeks via section with collapsed lung. Won't go into deal because it wasn't nice but you will be fine.

Mumbledore · 12/05/2015 07:12

For me, the injection was the most painful bit of the whole thing! Section after was lovely and calm. It's not that bad though, over quickly and I found it quite comical dancing round with an enormous bump rubbing my bum going 'ow ow ow'!

I remember I had read on here that they were painful and then they weren't at all! Just like any flu jab etc I guess everyone has a different pain threshold. How do you find injections in general?

Halleberry · 12/05/2015 21:36

Well I got it done ladies. It was 3 minutes of very very uncomfortable ... But bearable pain. Definitely
Not the worst pain I've felt, but certainly very annoying and Uncomfy. Another one to go tomorrow before my section on Thursday. Hope tomorrow is not even worse x

Glad it was ok, it's helping your baby's lungs and that's the main thing. Hope your section goes well
