Did MW measure your bump?

At my 25 week appointment the MW didn't measure my bump which I've read they should. I am overweight - would this be the reason? And if so how do they gauge if the baby is growing properly?

I'm not seeing her again until 29 weeks so just wanted to see what you all think?

Totally depends. My consultant put in my notes for MW to start from 28 weeks, my MW did it at 25. Your weight shouldn't matter too much as you are lying down and they feel for the top of your uterus and measure from that to your pubic bone. I wouldn't panic.

I had my 28 wk appt yesterday and it was the first time my bump was measured.

Mine did yesterday at my 25 week appointment then apologised because she wasn't supposed to start measuring for a few more weeks yet. She was chatting away and did it out of habit.

And to add I'm overweight but she had no problem measuring me.

NICE guidelines recommend it from 24 weeks but individual Trust policies may differ. The most important clinical examinations at your appointments are size of bump, testing urine, taking your blood pressure and checking that your baby is moving as normal. If you're worried call her, or visit your GP for an antenatal check before your next appointment and don't be affraid to talk to your midwife about what she needs to check and why and when. Was your baby growing as expected at your 20+ week scan?

Mine wasn't measured at 25wk so I'm hoping it's done at 28 as I think I'm quite big, almost the same as a friend 6 wks ahead and she's been sent for growth scans as they think she's measuring big!

mine was first measured at 28wk appointment

MissTwister · 01/05/2015 17:43

Yes baby was fine at scan - about middle for everything. Bit fatter round the middle!

The consultant did put me in for a growth scan as she said bump measuring is harder with a BMI over 30

I'm also wondering why she asked me to come back at 29 weeks instead of 28! Suppose a week doesn't make much difference...
