Thrush in pregnancy

I have had this for 2 weeks and have been going insaneð??³ has anyone else had this in pregnancy? What are my treatment options - both conventional and alternative?

Oh its awful isn't it.. I couldn't shift it at all at first.
The only thing that worked for me was the pessery, but the one taken over a long course and the cream. I changed my underwear often and tried to go pantless when I could.

I feel for you though.. Thrush is harder to get rid of in pregnancy!

I had this at about 28 weeks for a week or so. The doctor prescribed me the caniston cream and pessary and it went pretty much straight away. You're OK with the pessary in pregnancy, just use your finger rather than the applicator. The oral medicine isn't safe in pregnancy. Hope you can get rid of it, it really is awful!

Yes the pessaries and creams are safe in pregnancy but you aren't supposed to use the oral tablet

Yes, its just the oral treatment you cant have.
You can get the extended pessery and cream proscribed by the Dr also, which can save on cost.

You can also have warm baths in Epsom salts as this helps keep fungus at bay. Use about a cup full per bath and stay in for 20 mins. I used to suffer from severe recurrent thrush and using Lactacyd feminine wash (available on amazon) seems to have brought it under control. And the baths.

Live, natural bio yogurt also helps - to eat as well as on your fanjo!

And check your washing powder - use something natural like ecover for your undies.

The pessaries are safe but you need to get it prescribed as the pharmacy won't sell it over the counter to a pregnant lady.
Some GPs won't prescribe it straight away if you are pregnant as they might want to do a swab to be sure that it isn't anything except thrush and some GPs like to wait before prescribing anything to see if the thrush clears itself due to it being difficult to treat during pregnancy.

Thanks for these replies! Where can I get Epsom salts? Last time I had thrush was as a teenager!

Saw Epsom salts at my local pharmacy the other day so maybe ask your pharmacist if you can't see them there? I had thrush for weeks in pregnancy but used the pessary (prescribed by gp) around 25 weeks and it cleared up the thrush just fine. Luckily it didn't recur. Also I find the less sugar I eat the better - unfortunately!

See your GP for a prescription for pessaries- ideally a 6/7 day course. Should work. Yy to the hygiene things tii but Epsom salts unlikely to clear it up so stop suffering and make that appointment!!

Yes Epsom salts are not a treatment, more of a prevention. I buy 10kg at a time from amazon but this is because I absolutely love having Epsom salt baths and there are loads of other health benefits as well.

Definitely go to the GP and get some medicine.

I had thrush from 32 weeks until 36 weeks it was horrible. I wasn't allowed the pessary due to a problem with my cervix so had the cream only. I used sea salt in the bath and changed my underwear several times a day.

Also wear cotton pants, change regularly (or use natural panty liners like Naty ones), wash pants in natural / mild detergent, and get air to your bits as often as possible! Try not to wear tights, or tight clothing as this will make it worse.

Second the suggestions to go to the GP, I went a couple of weeks back complaining of Thrush so they did a couple of swabs and it turned out I had BV as well as thrush, symptoms are very similar but they both need different treatments.

Luke warm baths with normal table salt is good too, something I have done for years if I get a bout of thrush.

Also contact your GP, spoke to mine this morning and he's done me a prescription

I had it at 16 weeks, treated it and was cleared for a few weeks and now its back :( It drives me crazy!!
I've told the mw when it started at 16 weeks and she gave me some Canesten cream from her cupboard. But because everyone on here at the time told me to see the GP and make sure it is not something else, I did not use what the mw gave me and went to see my GP.
She took a swab and prescribed an internal cream (with an applicator) and the external cream. She told me the one with the aplicator works best.
It did work for like 3 weeks. Went back and she laughed at me. She told me some women don't get 3 weeks free from thrush during pregnancy :)

Epson salts on Amazon, I normally buy 10 kg at a time, good for everything :)
