Is this normal? How are other people coping?

Second time round I had heartburn from the moment I weed on a stick practically.

Got omeprazole from the doctors. It was nothing short of miraculous.

Gaviscon tablets, fizzy water and small meals... I suffer with it pretty often normally too, so I'm always ready. Oh and laying on your left helps a lot! You can get ranitidine and omeprazole etc, but I don't get on with them.

Oh Ladypug I feel your pain!

Thankfully my bump has now dropped so the heartburn isn't quite as bad (it's still there though - the idea that it disappears entirely is a fallacy).

I found the best thing was ASDA own brand heartburn tablets. They taste like fruity chalk (think parma-violets) and much nicer to take than gaviscone.

Like has been said, once they became ineffective I went to the doctors to ask for Rantinitdine (available OTC in boots) and he gave me omeprazole. It's safe in pregnancy and having used it before when I had the H.CObacter virus I was aware of how awesome those little pills are. You only need to take one daily and they prevent your stomach producing too much acid, which is whats causing the reflux.

Dr also suggested raising your bed by putting some yellow pages under the actual bed (not mattress). This way your whole body will be raised, rather than just your head, and will help prevent the reflux

All the best m'dear!!

I'm sleeping sitting up. Ranitidine seems to help more than gaviscon, but it's all pretty horrendous.

I waited until the last few weeks before I gave in and asked for omeprazole. Should have done it sooner.

Gaviscon stopped working for me so I've been using rennies which seem to do the trick

dreamingaboutcheese · 21/04/2015 15:40

Oh man - I had it so bad - it was still going even during labour! I lived on gaviscon (did you know you can get a bumper box from the dr on your free prescription?) The other thing that helped at night was eating a banana. Weird I know but worth a shot... Hope you feel better soon.

Another vote for rantitadine here Smile
