just after reassurance really, been for dating scan today where i was roughly measured 12+6 however baby was in an awkward position so couldnt get a clear pic or measurements for screening.

have to go back friday to try again, anyone else experienced this? im hopeful its nothing to worry about so reassurance greatly accepted!

Yeah I had it, I had a scan at 10 weeks when I thouhht I was 11+, then back at 12-13 weeks to find awkward baby wouldn't cooperate. He's two now and even worse at cooperating..

gingerbreadmam · 07/04/2015 16:42

ahh phew just what i like to hear.

its so difficult as i had an mmc late last year and a scare with this one a few weeks ago. dp came and has made something which i think is relatively normal seem like it is a problem.

the sonographer was very scientific too so when dp was asking if baby was healthy she was saying she couldnt say but i think that was because we had opted for screening and she wasnt able to do it today because of position.

saw heartbeat and baby is measuring ahead from a previous scan i had 3 weeks ago tomo so i suspect everything is great but dp has worried me and i guess the scientific sonographer didnt help much.

It really does mean nothing other than baby was in an awkward position! My scan with DD took forever for same reason and they ended up having to do a trans-vaginal one so they could see certain parts of her properly.

geekymommy · 07/04/2015 20:09

DD wasn't terribly cooperative when she was inside me, and DS isn't being cooperative either. I had to go back for them to re-do some parts of the 20 week scan because he wasn't cooperating. DD is 2.5 and a willful toddler. I guess I got a preview of what was to come (and now I'll be in trouble with two like that...)

youlemming · 07/04/2015 20:11

not with the dating scan but I am going back in a few days for a 20wk re-scan at almost 24 wks as baby was all curled up with back facing out so they couldn't get the face profile or heart measurements.
No amount of prodding or me moving about helped get 'her' (think a girl but due to being a monkey will get it confirmed again) in a better position and I think she said it was the 5th that week she had to book back in, so it's good that they do re-book and check all's ok and not assume it's fine.
I'm sure all is well and try to look at it as another chance to see baby again Grin

ALittleFaith · 07/04/2015 20:12

DD was sitting on her rump so she couldn't be measured at the first scan. Next time she was upside down curled around the placenta! Awkward still but the radiographer got the result with effort.

youlemming · 07/04/2015 20:12

in addition a friend had the same thing only a few wks before and her re-scan was fine

MrsMillions · 07/04/2015 20:15

3 attempts (same day) with DC2 and still wouldn't get into position. Too late to go back (had been once at 10+5 but too early, fully booked until 13+5, no chance of another date within window). So I'm having 2nd trimester bloods to screen that way. Nervous until we get the results but have had to go public as can't hide tummy any longer!

gingerbreadmam · 07/04/2015 20:18

oh u ladies are fantastic! that has really has brightened my day.

think just with the mmc we were already dreading today and then for that to happen my dp went into meltdown which has ended up rubbing off on me even tho logically i know its fine.

she has arranged for us to go back in a few days to give it chance to turn, so she knows it ok doesnt she? she also made sure it was this week due to my dps reaction so he could be reassured. it all seems so reasonable when i write it down.

not to mention we saw the heartbeat flickering away.

oh thank you thank you thank you. must. stay. off. google.

Both of mine were in awkward positions and it was just that. Awkward positions. DD moved in time for a rescan. DS did no such thing and was a bugger throughout. I needed a scan at 37 weeks (just because of my physiology, nowt to do with him) and he was playing in utero hide and seek.

He's no more cooperative nearly 4 years later.

Grantaire · 07/04/2015 20:21

Please, please don't worry. Imagine being fast asleep and comfortable and a perfect stranger with a proddy stick trying to get you to move around for their benefit. You'd curl up in a ball and refuse to move too.

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 07/04/2015 20:23

Yes, has happened in both my pregnancies. First time I went back the following week and baby had moved enough to get the nuchal measurement etc. This time was a different hospital and they don't have a rescan policy so they just sent me away and I had the quad test rather than the nuchal test. It has happened at both of my 20 week scans too, and also at my private 4D scan. I just have very awkward babies Smile

youlemming · 07/04/2015 20:27

I've been told some very cold water before hand might help as baby will not like being too close to the bladder if it's cold and will move about to get away from it

Teeste · 07/04/2015 20:50

My 12 week scan was fine, but he's been an uncooperative little so and so ever since! Wouldn't show us his heart at the 20 week scan, the follow-up scan or the growth scan after that. At the private 4D scan we had, we saw his 4 chambered heart (phew) but his hand, knees and cord were all in front of his face, making the picture fuzzy (boo). He wouldn't move either, despite me contorting, jiggling and bouncing (no mean feat at 29 weeks, let me tell you).

MistressKatherine · 07/04/2015 20:58

Same here! Baby would not behave at dating scan. He squirmed everywhere so they couldn't get any reading on the back of the neck. Poor sonography had me try everything - jumping up and down, rocking from side to side (nearly fell off the trolley). She then sent me for a walk three times round the car park, which also didn't work, and then a wee to empty half my bladder. Nada. Wouldn't turn. I asked if it meant anything and she said absolutely not, just he was being stubborn. We just did the blood tests for downs and has the normal 20 week scan which went much better. 30 weeks now and booting away like a trooper so don't worry :)

gingerbreadmam · 07/04/2015 21:03

thats so reassuring thank you all so much for taking the time to respond as it really has helped put my mind at rest.

actually starting to look a little forward to friday now, hope theres been a bit of movement even if just for a nice pic Grin

Had this with 12 weeks and 20 weeks scans. Tried walking, eating, drinking but nothing helped,so had to come back next day.

gingerbreadmam · 08/04/2015 18:14

thanks hophop need all the reassurance i can get! all sounds pretty normal and chances r normal healthy awkward baby in there Grin

StrawberryCheese · 08/04/2015 18:23

Mine was very awkward for the dating scan and I would have had to go back but the sonographer decided to persevere for ages. Felt so bad for the poor woman who was having her scan after me! Will have to wait a few more weeks to see if baby will misbehave at the next scan Grin

gingerbreadmam · 08/04/2015 20:08

thanks strawberry i do think i got unlucky with the sonographer. it wasnt that she werent nice, she was nice enough but just too technical. when we were crying out for her to say baby is fine she just couldnt tell us as i guess her job is to check properly first so didnt help the situation.

its a shame it isnt midwives that scan you as i think they'd be a bit more helpful in that department.

That's great to hear and I'm so glad you were reassured.
Same happened with me at my 12w scan. Tried jiggling about, went for a walk, had a cup of water, went to the loo and no luck. Had to then try the internal scan which isn't pleasant but nothing to worry about and still the little so and so wasn't doing as it was told!
I went back a few days later and after a bit of coaxing they got the measurements!
My 20w is in about ten days time so hoping it behaves!
I was also worried like you but seems it's pretty normal!

gingerbreadmam · 10/04/2015 14:27

i was offered internal the other day but sonigrapher said she doubted she'd get measurements still so thought may aswel wait and was worth it in the end. like u it was still a littlw wiggler tho thankfully sonographer was patient haha!
