I am 9.5 weeks, I have the form but it hasnt been filled in and sent off yet (the midwife wanted to do it after the scan to get the exact due date or something).

I have to pick up a prescription for some long standing medication which I really need (run out this morning) but I have been a bit silly and left my purse in DHs work bag which he has now taken to work. I have no other way to pay! DH would have to travel for 1.5 hours to get back to pick up the prescription (its on repeat so its already done and waiting for me here!)

If i go in today would i be able to get the prescription free becasue I am pregnant or do i need to pay because I havent sent the ceritficate off yet?

You can ask, but pharmacists usually ask to see the card you get issued once you've sent off the form. Might have to just pay up - I know I had to in early pregnancy when I had no "proof".

My DP has picked up prescriptions for me in the early weeks of my pregnancy and not had my card but just told them I was pregnant/exempt and there has never been an issue. I think it probably does depend on the pharmacy though.

I looked this up and seems that it depends on the pharmacy. But even if the pharmacy says you aren't entitled to free prescriptions if you're desperate I'm sure the chemist will give you enough tablets to last till you can pay.

I just got my exemption cery and the rules are that it is valid for a month before the issue date but you can't get free prescriptions until you actually have it. You have to ask for a receipt and claim back the charges. Telling them you have maternity exemption when you haven't yet received it is against the rules,

My local pharmacy (and my dentist) both let me off paying when I said I was pregnant but hadn't yet received my exemption. They were fine about it.

I must find out from my midwife when I get it actually as I've now got a repeat prescription for the entire pregnancy and I'm 15 weeks.

I tried in Boots. I had my maternity notes with me so could prove I was pregnant, but I hadn't received the card yet. They said no, I still had to pay

Try Sainsbury pharmacy, they were really helpful and did mine before I received the card.

I've never been asked to show it in my local one....
