Wisdom tooth agony at 7 weeks pregnant

Hi all, I've recently had a wisdom tooth come through and the past couple of days I've been in agony so bad it's keeping me awake and only been taking paracetamol which doesn't really help.. So went to see dentist today and he agreed it needs to come out but refused to touch it until I'm 12wks! What am I going to do for another 4/5wks?? any advice much appreciated..

Oh dear poor you. My DD (19) has had trouble recently with a wisdom tooth that is partially through and I thought it would have to come out. The dentist gave her two injections and then cleaned it out and packed it with some stuff that looked like red mesh. She said the relief was instantaneous - not perfect but miles better than it was before. This was a about 3 weeks ago and it seems to have settled down well. Perhaps you could ask if this would help for you? You have my sympathy - DD is very brave and she was crying with hers.

Thanks for your reply fantasea, sounds similar to my situation I was crying solidly for an hr yesterday in pain hormones properly not helping either but I went into the dentist explained I was in agony and he point blank refused to do anything until I'm 12wks

Oh dear, that is awful. Why do you have to wait until 12 weeks? Could you try and see another dentist and go as an emergency?

I'm not sure why I asked why and he just said it's not possible until you are 3 months.. My face is slightly swollen and been getting intense headache on that side think it's connected to the tooth, going to go see Dr tomoro to ask if I need antibiotics or something.. I just don't know...

Yes it would be a good idea to go and see your GP. I bought DD some Corsodyl mouthwash a few days before she went to the dentist and she said that is helped a bit - the dentist said it was the best mouthwash for wisdom tooth pain, but it might be worth checking with the GP to see if it is safe to use in pregnancy.

Gargle with warm salt water in the morning and at night, also after you've eaten. I don't think there is much else you can do other than take paracetamol until you're 12 weeks.

I hope it eases off for you soon, I had a nightmare with my wisdom teeth, it was horrible

I hate my wisdom teeth, so much sympathy for you! Are you sure that the problem is a tooth coming through? I had very bad pain with a lower WT a few years ago and the problem turned out to be a bacterial infection (prob caused by a bit of stuck food) in a flap of gum that always partially covered the tooth. The gum got swollen, so the tooth in the top jaw was constantly chomping against it. Could that possibly be the problem with you?

If so, syringing with saline to flush out the thing that's causing the infection could be an option -- really can't see why you shouldn't have that done in early preg. But also, maybe your dentist is being excessively cautious? Is there any way you could get a second opinion?

For some extractions you HAVE to take x Rays and that's always something we avoid during pregnancy although we have to look at risk vs benefit.

Well the wisdom tooth coming through has apparently made a hole in the tooth next to it so whether the pain is because of the hole of the wisdom tooth I'm not sure, the wisdom tooth is only half way through though

There's every chance it will calm down by then anyway.

How long has the hole been there for? Holes aren't as difficult during pregnancy as extractions as you can get away without x Rays so if it's that you might be ok!!
