I know that we're not supposed to worry about it but I'm 30 weeks and I've gained 20lbs already, NHS guidelines say between 20-26lbs most in the 3rd trimester.

I did eat way too much during the first bit as I was so sick and snacking was the only thing that gave me some relief.

I'm try to eat very healthily now and swimming but obviously can't cut calories.

I am in my 9th week. Have gained nothing yet! But I haven't had nausea, cravings or anything like that so just eating a normal balanced diet with lots of fruit and veg. I have actually totally gone off fried junk food like chips etc. so bright is what it was 2-3 months ago.

Don't know what lies ahead! Baby measuring perfectly and is ok as of yesterday's 8 week scan so thankfully the lack of weight gain hasn't harmed him or her!

londonlivvy · 29/03/2015 14:09

I'm 38+3 and have gained 30 lbs. A bit more than I wanted to, in all honesty. I've just been so tired and trying to keep up energy to look after DD that I've eaten more rubbish than usual. And instead of doing yoga at lunchtime nap time I've been sleeping too.

HazleNutt · 29/03/2015 14:10

BMI 23 is not the upper end, but nicely in the middle. People are different and the guidelines are 'one size fits nobody'. Your weight gain is not anything unusual or worrying.

MissTwister · 29/03/2015 16:55

I'm 22 weeks and have put on about 4 pounds. My BMI was 33 though so I don't need to put as much on - however neither a midwife nor a consultant were willing to give me any advice on what I should put on. They just said to eat healthily. Makes it very hard for me to know if I am doing the right thing!

I'm 39 weeks and and have only put on 8.5lbs!!

This is due to a couple of factors including a lack of appetite in the first 2 trimesters, no alcohol and diagnosed with gestational diabetes in the last trimester so I have had to control my blood sugar levels with a low GI diet.
So hopefully, I will end up lighter after this baby comes along in the next couple of weeks (scans telling us that the baby is of average size).

I have to say that the allure of Easter eggs are becoming a problem and I may undo all my good work!

Stinkylinky · 29/03/2015 20:30

I'm 25+5 and gained 6lb so far. I did lose just under a stone when I was about 8 weeks pregnant due to morning sickness and a lovely dose of norovirus though

Racheyg · 29/03/2015 20:31

im 31 weeks and have put on nearly 3 stone. Im so upset but it still doesnt stop me from eating. I eat healthy foods mixed with bad. will have a salad but 2 pitta breads with it. I felt sick for the first 4 months so only ate carbs, cheese, bread which really made me pile on the pounds :( x

I haven't dared weigh myself since I was 13 weeks (23+4 now) as at 13 weeks I had already put on 2 stone Confused

seaoflove · 29/03/2015 20:39

If it's any consolation, I put on around three stone in my first pregnancy (thanks, SPD) and lost two stone just from having the baby.

fattymcfatfat · 29/03/2015 20:41

yes to be fair in my last two pregnancies most of my weight has gone when giving birth and spd doesn't help at all Angry

theaveragebear1983 · 30/03/2015 16:26

I'm 12+2 and I've gained 5 lb already, with both previous pregnancies I gained well over 35 lb (the recommended max) and both times I lost it within my maternity leave year and went back to work 'normal'. I just weigh once every 2 weeks and if I feel I've gone totally off the rails I do a diary on my fitness pal to calculate the calories. I'm living on bread and cheese mostly but at least it's nutritious and I haven't eaten loads of sweets. What will be will be...

freshstart4us · 30/03/2015 17:01

30 wks tomorrow, have gained about 8kgs. Quite laid back about it though, I gained 14kgs with DD and lost it all within a month, breastfeeding will do that!

freshstart4us · 30/03/2015 17:02

FWIW haven't even been weighed at my midwife appointments this time, apparently "looking healthy" is more important than the actual numbers these days. I think your midwife would say something if they thought you were gaining too much or putting youself or your baby at risk.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 30/03/2015 17:08

I'm 22+2 with twins and have gained 18lbs. I'm not majorly concerned I eat a varied diet mostly chocolate coated and am active. I eat as and when I'm hungry but don't actually snack as much as before pregnancy. I've been wearing mat jeans since about 11 weeks because my normal clothes were getting uncomfortable and the same pair still surprisingly fit!

MSMB · 30/03/2015 17:28

I'm 29 weeks and have gained nearly 2 stone. I was horrified when I found out last week (had been putting off weighing myself) I admit I'm probably a bit too fond of creme eggs and carbs but when I spoke to my midwife she reassured me that I'm healthy and weight gain varies from person to person. I'm now trying to be as healthy as possible but it's very hard as everyone is giving me cake at the moment Confused ! Just look after yourself and keep healthy. Worry about your weight loss after the birth xx

hestialou · 30/03/2015 19:11

16 weeks lost 7lbs, but was ill, and now cant eat half what I used to. I miss cake. Sad

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 30/03/2015 19:29

I'm 18+3 and have gained around 3.5kgs. Had a bmi of around 24 when I got pregnant. I'm finding it really hard to figure out if my weight gain is normal. Grateful for any thoughts!

Feckeggblue · 30/03/2015 20:17

My hospital midwives seemed to be quite interested in weight - I was weighed each appointment but, they only had me until 12 weeks and I guessed they didn't want you putting on much weight then as you don't have any baby weight.

After being discharged to the community midwife she couldn't care less. She told me off for weighing myself on the scales in her office (the GP surgery) saying that scales are a conspiracy by menGrin

freshstart4us · 30/03/2015 20:41

Lorelai have you/would you use one of the pg apps (or online equivalent)? I'm using Ovuline and gives a good graphic of trend/range. If your bmi was between 18.5 and 24.9 pre-pg then healthy gain is between 11 and 16 kgs. Do you know your starting weight?

batfish · 31/03/2015 04:49

I'm only 12+4 and seem to have gained 7lb since I weighed myself the week before I got pregnant, oh dear! I did go on holiday though during that time so I'll attribute 3lb to that Grin

Rebecca1608 · 31/03/2015 07:10

I'm 27 weeks pregnant with twins and have put on 2 stone already, I was around a size 8-10 before pregnancy. I feel massive but I'm hoping to get back in the gym when babies are here. If I get some me time.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 31/03/2015 10:02

I'll look at Ovuline - thanks! I started out around 72kg and am now 75.5kg. I just know that the weight gain is going to speed up and hope I haven't put on too much, too fast! I find it so hard to lose weight... For each kg that goes on, I keep thinking how hard it is going to be to get it off again!
