Hi I'm around 9/10 weeks pregnant with my first and still haven't been seen. Is this normal? I went to to doctors just over a week ago and he just gave me a self referral form which I took to homerton hospital. They still have not contacted me and the doctor did not give me any tests. Just want reassurance that this is normal procedure? Thanks

Normal. Homerton is London isn't it? I only know about timescales and procedures in South/West Yorkshire, but I'd had no routine appointments by 9 weeks. Thehospital have only had your form a week, i wouldn't worry just yet if you are otherwise well.

bonzo77 · 28/03/2015 13:21

maybe call to check you are in their system. Other than that, don't worry. I got letters for booking in and dating scan together for when i was 12 weeks.

Izzy24 · 28/03/2015 13:23

I'd check with the hospital as things do get mislaid.

Superexcited · 28/03/2015 13:24

I self referred to the midwife service when I was 6 weeks pregnant, got a phone call at 8 weeks and had my first appointment at 10 weeks. A few days after the midwife booking appointment I got blood results from the GP and a letter with the 12 week scan appointment from the hospital.
You only referred a week ago so you need to give them a chance to contact you.

WindYourBobbinUp · 28/03/2015 13:55

When I was in London I didn't get my booking in appointment until after 12 weeks. Give them a call if you don't hear anything in a week though, but north London hospitals are very busy

Thanks everyone was feeling a bit clueless! .. My mind is at rest now. Had been calling them but not getting through to anyone. If I don't hear anything in a weeks time will go in. Thanks :)

Hi Steph. Definitely give them a call on Monday.
I was referred to UCLH by my gp and she advised me to call two days later to ensure they received it.
Turns out it wasn't received on that friday so I immediately called my gp surgery to re send it.
During this phonecall the gp receptionist went crazy at me saying "do not call the hospital, they are too busy and will contact you within two weeks".
I called UCLH that following Tuesday and they were more than happy to tell me they received it and gave me my appointment date.
Moral of the story, don't trust the gp and it in to your own hands!!! Grin

Fattycow · 28/03/2015 18:24

My first appointment was at 9 weeks.

Loiterer · 28/03/2015 21:51

Normal. I had my booking in at about 12 weeks.

Only thing is if you want the combined testing you will need your scan appointment soon after your appointment. When I went I had to really push to get one before 14 +1 which I think is the cut off.

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 29/03/2015 08:42

In my area, GP refers you to hospital for scan but you have to ring the midwives to make booking in appointment yourself. Maybe give GP a call to check procedure.

CityDweller · 29/03/2015 10:13

Normal for London. Last pregnancy I heard from hospital within about 9 days of seeing GP and had booking about a week later (at 9 or 10 wks I think). This time it all took longer - about 2 wks to hear from hospital and booking in not until 11 weeks. Same gp and hospital (UCLH). I'd call on Thurs to check if you don't hear by then.

Congratulations, by the way!

Try giving the maternity helpline a call on Monday - 02085105955. They should be able to tell you whether they have your referral etc

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 29/03/2015 14:14

Yes, I had a 12 week scan appt & an appointment for booking in with the midwife on consecutive days, and was only notified of both maybe a few days earlier? If you've not heard somewhere between 11 & 12 weeks, I'd phone to check you're "in the system".

Fatty12 · 29/03/2015 16:25

Yes it is normal. My first midwife app was at 11+4 and then ofcourse the dating scan comes after that. Xx

Carrierpenguin · 29/03/2015 16:29

Yes it's normal, I had scan at 13 weeks. My London hospital takes two weeks from referral to send appt letters, if you only referred a week ago give them a chance!

Trickytricky · 29/03/2015 22:53

I'm 11 weeks 5 days and not seen anyone other than GP yet. I've got my booking in appointment and 12 week scan later this week.

BoogieBean · 30/03/2015 13:20

I'm 17 weeks now but I also self referred to Homerton when I was 5 weeks. I received my appointment letter a week later but my booking appointment wasn't until I was gone 11 weeks. My scan was booked there and then at my booking appointment and I had it a few days later. It is normal to wait a while so try not to worry, and maybe give them a call sometime this week.
