Pregnancy test

Hi there,

First time I've written on anything like this. It's my 30th birthday tomorrow & my husband & I have been trying for a baby for ages. This is the first month I have had symptoms & really felt I could be pregnant. I did a test early before we went out for dinner which seemed negative, but when I came home & for some reason checked again it showed as positive!!!! Did another & a really, really, really faint line showed but took about 10 mins. I'm so confused! Has anyone got any thoughts?

You date your pregnancy from the first day of your last period (I don't know why - a man must have thought of that ) so you'll be about 5 weeks I think?
I found out on my birthday too hehe... (I might have said that, I'm not too sure... I am suffering from first trimester exhaustion and a cold).

How late is your period or are you not due yet?

Best advice is test with first urine of the day (or hold urine for minimum 4 hours and don’t drink during that time) and to use a pink dye test such as First Response Early Results (FRER) or Superdrug early results tests as they are less likely to produce false positives/evap lines which could be mistaken for positives. If a test comes back negative and you are not more than a couple of days overdue then advice is to test again in 2-3 days to allow hormones to rise to a l where they will be detectable.
