Anyone had an early induction by Propess pessary?

Hoping to hear some stories from anyone who was induced early (say before 38 weeks) using the Propess pessary. Was it successful? How long between insertion and labour starting etc. I did read that approximately 75% of women will have given birth within 24 hours of having Propess started but I am presuming that with early inductions for medical reasons as chances are your body isn't really getting ready to go into labour naturally we might be in the 25%.

I suppose I'm just looking for some reassurance that it does work for early inductions too!

I didn't reply earlier because I'm afraid I don't have a successful story. I was induced with pessaries at 38 weeks due to concerns about the baby's growth and placental blood flow. When I asked if an induction was likely to work at that stage I was told '90% of inductions work'. I am now highly sceptical. I spent 3 almost sleepless nights on the labour ward and didn't dilate at all to so they couldn't break waters. I ended up with a caesarean, which was actually a very positive experience.

I don't know if other people haven't replied because it's unusual to be induced early like that. Or if like me they don't have positive stories to share and you specifically said that's what you wanted. However I'm sure if must work for some people otherwise surely they wouldn't do it?

I hope I haven't scared you but as no one else replied I thought you might want my honest answer. I wish you good luck and I absolutely hope it works for you.

I was induced with propess at 38 weeks. I started contracted irregularly about 4 hours after it was inserted, contracting regularly about 15 hours later and then it was removed 18 hours after insertion when my waters broke and I was 6cm. I then laboured without any other assistance for a few hours and got to fully dilated but my contractions went off so I had a syntocinon drip then which worked well. I had a ventouse delivery at the very last minute because baby wasn't coping well at the end but it was overall a fine experience. I wasn't expecting to love labour and didn't but I certainly wouldn't be worried about having the same experience over again. I hope that helps.

Thankyou both! It is good to hear both sides, I think unfortunately marmot75 your story is more common as they say 1 in 4 don't work for first deliveries and with second or subsequent deliveries 1 in 20 but i think that is full term only as i can't find many positive stories for pre term inductions.Confused

I was induced with the pessaries at 36+1 at 12pm. Had slight period pains on and off for a day. New pessary in the next day at 2pm and then gave birth at 2.30am the following morning (36+3) It took a while to get going but absolutely flew once it'd started. I phoned my husband at 1.10am to tell him to come in because the pain was bad and gave birth just over an hour later. I went from 2cm to 8cm in less than 20 minutes! That was my first child as well so it can work out alright for some people. I walked around a lot in the hours of the night before I had him and walked a bit in established labour so maybe that helped too. Good luck :)

I was given propess at 34 weeks due to medical reasons. Went from one cm at insertion to baby in five hours!

I was induced with the pessary at 38w due to pre eclampsia and it worked first time. Contractions started an hour before the second pessary was due to be inserted and baby was 4 hours later.

That's good that it's worked so well for others. Maybe I was just unlucky. Hope it works for you Flippityflip.

Me! I've had two inductions using a propess. The first was at 37 weeks due to gd and although I didn't think it had done anything (no pains) 24hrs later I was 3cms dilated so they could get in and break my waters.dd was born 10 hrs later.
Second one was three days after my due date and very similar.

I was exactly 39 weeks when I was induced with pessary at 6.05... My waters broke and went into labour at 10.19 and My DS was born at 12.19...
