Anyone had a private gender scan?

Has anyone had one? Are you glad you did? I'm really debating whether to or not. I know it won't check if there's anything wrong with the baby but I feel like the wait between the 12 week and 20 week scan is going to take forever, and seeing baby again would be reassuring even though it's not going to check for health problems. I'd love to be able to know what sex the little bean is while I'm waiting for the 20 week scan!

Awww thank you, I can't wait. At our 16 week scan they briefly switched it to 4d but he was covering half his face but had the chubbiest cheeks. So we're excited to see him again Smile xx

Hi I waited until 20 weeks scan and was told that it was a girl, no doubt about it at all. At 28 weeks I then had a private scan just to look at my girl again and was told it was a boy. I'm now 38 weeks and waiting for my boy soon. Obviously I'm happy baby is fine but I took it to heart and had pretty much created her in my mind so I found it a bit hard to adjust to it then being a boy. I'm still not convinced it's a boy even though I have seen 2 very round testicles, maybe I swallowed marbles as a kid. Anyway get A second opinion if possible xx

pinkie87 · 03/03/2015 21:13

Gosh, that must have been difficult. I will get a second opinion at the 20 week scan I suppose.

Oh I'm still not sure whether to have a private gender scan before my 20 week scan! Atleast if I get told it's one sex at the private and the same at my 20 week it's likely to be accurate?

What's holding you back THEworrywart?

I had a Private Gender scan at 16 weeks and they said boy and then the NHS also said boy at the anomaly scan... Although they can never say 100%, I have heard that if they think boy is is almost certainly a boy, if they think girl then there is a bigger margin for error... If it helps at all, we could all very clearly see boy parts at 16 weeks!

Even if the gender scan would have been wring on the sex, I still wouldn't have regretted it as it was lovely to see the baby in the time between the 12 and 20 week scan...

THEworrywart · 04/03/2015 08:46

my mum thinks I should wait because I'm the type to get addicted to scans like my sister did which will make my anxiety worse. I can also imagine the babies legs to be closed when I go for a scan and it'll be money that could go on the actual baby gone.

I would definitely go for the sex scan!

I am on holiday and had some spotting so through some blind panic have booked myself in for an early scan on Tuesday (I arrive home tomorrow so Tuesday is the soonest I could get).

If everything is fine with that scan I fear it may be the first of 2 or 3 private scans! One of which will be the sexing scan!

I had a friend who had one per mth (although maybe a little excessive!)

Jackieharris · 07/03/2015 20:06

My hospital didn't do 20 week scans at all! Shock

So we paid to have a private anomaly scan which also showed the sex.

I wouldn't get another one just because you are impatient!

See what you see at the 20 week one. If you can't find out the sex then get a private scan after that. The photos are much better on later scan anyway.

lilyanna812 · 07/03/2015 20:11

Thanks OP for posting this. I am in the same boat, got a 'gender scan' booked in for 17 weeks and I was wondering whether it was a good idea or not....

but reading this I am more reassured and I am looking fwd to it. thank u!!

weeblueberry · 07/03/2015 20:15

My hospital didn't do 20 week scans at all!

Does that mean they don't offer any anomaly testing whatsoever??

ceebelle83 · 10/03/2015 17:36

We did it two weeks ago, at just over 15 weeks. It was fab. We found out we are having a boy...however she said, at our early stage, if we'd been having a girl it would be harder to say for sure.
It was about 20mins appointment, we got a dvd of our little one moving about in the womb and a photo for £35. Absolutely no regrets.

ceebelle83 · 10/03/2015 17:39

PS have a can of lucozade or some sweeties about 15mins before to get your little bub wriggling for you!

Pdwatt12 · 03/02/2016 16:12

This is my 13 week scan, any guesses on boy or girl? I think girl by the way :)

Bloody hell, pd. That's 3 threads you've posted this scan on. It's bad form to jump on other people's threads, let alone 3 of them. Start your own thread, or post on one and wait for people to respond.

Pdwatt12 · 03/02/2016 17:42

I'm sorry :( didn't mean to offend anyone! I'm new to all this! wouldn't know where to start to do a thread.ill delete this.sorry all

Dixiechick17 · 03/02/2016 20:15
