Hi I'm 14 weeks today and rather curious about skull theory and how accurate it is as we don't have our sexing scan for another 6 weeks and the suspense is killing me confused Any gender predictions are more than welcome smile

It's not a sexing scan, it's a scan to check everything is developing okay. If you want to know the sex of the baby early then you need to pay for a private scan.

Thanks I am aware of that but was hoping we'd have some idea by the nub theory but the baby wasn't giving anything away, so skull theory is my last resort before booking a private scan ??

There's an article here on it which says there isn't a great deal of difference at that age-

Both skull and nub of our baby looked "girl" (even to a sonographer, who guessed) at 12 weeks and they were wrong, so I always encourage people to be cautious with this.

Thanks iv just given it a read, it appears that it's accuracy is about the same as the old wives tales ?? guess I'm going to have to stop being so impatient or book a private scan. Out of curiosity what would your guess be? X

Mine showed a boy skull and I am having a girl. So, not accurate for me. I had a private scan at 17+2 to find out the sex, was glad that I didn't wait to see if we could find out at our anomoly scan as she was very stubborn and there is no way we would have seen :)

t's not really a theory at all- just somthing people play with on pregnancy message boards! No science behind it at all.

More fun to hang a ring on a strand of cotton, hold it over the bump. If it goes backwards and forwards it's a boy, round and round it's a girl. Just as much chance of being right (about 50:50) and more entertaining!

Mine was a boy by the skull theory, private scan at 18 weeks told us girl. We'll know for sure when it's born I guess!

The scan at 20 weeks is a really important one which checks all the baby's major organs for anomalies. It is not a scan to tell you the sex of your baby, although some hospitals may tell you at the end if you ask and if the baby is in the correct position.

I think it looks like a girl skull!

My ds just looked like a boy going by his skull. I can't explain why!

mumxof3x · 19/02/2015 08:50

Not really any truth in it. Im pregnant with my 4th child, all my scans for my dc's have shown completely different skulls, ranging from flat forhead to round forhead etc, I have 3 boys and this one is also a boy :)

Swanny84 · 19/02/2015 15:31

Wasn't accurate for me. 1 person out of 6 on here guessed boy. No one else at home/worked guessed correctly on nub or skull theory
