Hi,

Have had a really rough day. Am meant to be 6 +4 according to dates. All feeling fine, barely any symptoms. Then this morning I had light bleeding which developed into period like bleeding. Cue desperately phoning doctors and being rushed in to an emergency scan.

They have called it intrauterine pregnancy but uncertain viability. There's a gestational sac in the right place but as of now nothing in it. They said this could be normal and it's too early too tell. Or it could be unviable and a miscarriage.

They've booked me in for another scan in a weeks time. If the sac has grown, it's good news, otherwise bad news.

I just have to wait out the bleeding and keep fingers crossed. Hopefully, it will stop and sac will grow.

Has anyone had experience of this in the past? I don't know what to expect, what the odds are either way or how to feel. All too confusing and upsetting.

Any advice gratefully received.

X

Hey Alabazavi,

I haven't but didn't want to read and run - hope it all works out ok for you, I'll be rooting for you!!

I have literally just been through this myself, and I feel for you, because it's awful not knowing. The sonographer said to me, "it could go either way, there is nothing you can do to change the outcome, so just take care of yourself as best you can, and hang on for the next few days."

I think that's the best i can add - I went home and threw the healthy eating out of the window just for one night, and scarfed down an enormous pizza. Amazing how salt and fat actually can make you feel a bit better!

In case it helps you to feel better , in my case, a new scan this morning looked as promising as it can, but they were v careful to say at this stage there are no guarantees.

Lots of luck to you. Maybe try and do something that will spoil yourself, take your mind off it a tiny bit, and hope v much for a good outcome for you x

I have a lot of experience. Sorry to say that I've never had a good outcome once there was more than slight bleeding, but I know other people have. I think the only thing you can do is try and be kind to yourself, do whatever it is that comforts you and wait. This too shall pass.
Best of luck.

Thank you all, scarednoob I'm glad things are looking positive for you. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Me and DH are going away for a couple of days which will keep our minds off it I suppose. Countessmarkymitch thank you for your experience. I will hold on to any sliver of hope I can but at this point am expecting the worse.

I've had both sides of this.
First time I got bleeding at 11+5 that resulted in a MC at 13 weeks.
Second time I bled on and off from 7-12 wks and he's now 2 yrs old.
Both times bleeding was light to period like and always terrifying. The scans are the only way to know for sure. It's horrible and I feel for you. X

Re stats, there are loads quoted but I believe about 20-25% of all pregnancies are thought to result in mc. And about 30-40% of successful pregnancies experience bleeding.
As with any stats these are prob now be out of date, but I guess it gives you an idea of how common this experience is.

Hi Albazavi,

I went through similar at the start of this pregnancy. Emergency scans as bleeding severely at 10 weeks and I mean severe! Scan showed 2 sacs present with a foetus in each and positive HB's, but they gave me the threatened miscarriage warning. It was horrible! This was only 2 days after I even found I was pregnant! When I thought back, I had had bleeding at approx 3 and 6 weeks as well, pinkish to start then bleeding for 2 days with period cramping both times, thought just break through bleeds as I was on the pill...

Another big bleed at 11wks +2, again severe, filled sanitary pads x 2 within an hour. Again told threatened miscarriage and I simply needed to wait it out.

12wks +4 came, we'd told the whole family the previous day, typical! And I was stood in a queue at a supermarket and literally felt like I had wee-d myself. Looked down and despite wearing a pad I had blood streaming down my legs! Another scan and finally was told they think a placenta was low casing these 3 later big bleeds and was told early 3 and 6 week bleeds likely implantations.

I continued spotting all the time in between these episodes, then 14 weeks came and suddenly, literally overnight all blood loss stopped! Growth scan at 16wks was all good and I'm now sat at 19wks + 2, waiting for my 20 week scan with a pair of twins hitting all the growth markers on the graph :)

It's a worrying time, but it's not always a bad result... I was told the less stress I put myself under, the better it was all around. So as crazy and impossible as it sounds, try to relax! I was also told to keep hydrated, keep my feet up above my pelvis as much as possible to take pressure off the cervix, no exercise, no needless walking, just take it very easy for the next week.

I have my fingers crossed you have a positive result like me :)

I really feel for you, as I've recently gone through a similar experience. Please take care of yourself over the next few days, as the wait will be difficult and emotionally trying at times. Just remember it's okay to feel however you feel, it's a lot of possibilities to process!

Keeping everything crossed for you. ??
