I spent most of last week getting the nursery, closet, linen closet, and our bedroom cleared out. We live in an old house (built circa 1927) that has lead paint, and I'm having some doors replaced to make the house safer for our toddler and the new baby. I spent most of my time when I wasn't working or taking care of DD last week getting ready. I'm sore and exhausted from moving stuff out of the rooms that are being done. We're definitely pack rats, so doing anything like this requires moving a LOT of stuff. (I wanted to get this done before DD was born, but I wasn't able to find a contractor who would do it until now)

CURSE YOU, whoever decided lead paint was a good idea, and curse whoever decided that the US should not ban lead paint when the League of Nations did in 1922.

Let's hear your stories of stuff you've done while "nesting" and getting ready for a baby.

Taking the teeny tiny babygrows out the drawers. Smelling them. Folding them up again. Every day.

I save washing of new baby things for days when I feel a bit gloomy as a treat. I don't recognise myself at all!

I need to get some of this nesting stuff. Baby's room is still a tip! I know baby will be in with us to start with but would be a good idea to have it sorted -especially as the spare bed is still there for the grandparents visiting but it's covered in stuff!

I spent a day carefully handwashing all the hand knitted stuff in the bath (separated into 3 lots of whites, lemons/greens, and dark colours) because I was scared to ruin all the relatives' handiwork in the machine. I give it about a week after the birth before I'm shoving it all in on the quick wash cycle and hoping for the best...

DD's room was still a mess after she was born. It generally is still a mess, because, toddler. Nesting or no, I still suck at organizing.

2 days before DD1 was born I look in the fridge, noticed a small smudge of something on the shelf, had complete meltdown that if I was going to express and store it in the fridge, that tiny amount of smeared avocado could contain bacteria that would, in my irrationally hormonal mind at least, climb across the fridge up 2 shelves, through a sterile bag and poison my child.

I scrubbed the fridge to within an inch of it's plastic peeling off with boiling water from the kettle and bleach, then rinsed with neat boiling water and a final rinse with milton and boiling water. My fridge has never and will never be cleaner! Poor DD2 was lucky I washed her clothes in a mixed family wash the week before she was born.

Nesting? Nope, only in my 1st pregnancy. Everything was disinfected everyday in the strong brown Dettol liquid, I'd even mop the hallway outside my door (lived in a studio flat) and ex DP would smell it as soon as he got in the lift, I was a clean freak back then. Now I'm on my 5th child, I'm lucky that I get my basic housework done everyday! I'm in too much pain to be going mental at it, but I'd love to be able to. But tomorrow I'm bleaching my walls (how do they get so bloody dirty!?)

I dusted the hoover at 27 weeks...Hmm

MadamSwish · 09/02/2015 21:15

I'm 32 weeks along. I have an overwhelming desire to clean my skirting boards. I would do it as well, if I wasn't so lazy massively pregnant.

Cleared out all of OH's clothes. Tried to give loads to the charity shop. Then folded them all into tiny squares and rearranged all his drawers. Too scared to look in them now as he doesn't respect folding.
Polishing the hole punch at work today was a new low.
32w and haven't even decided what colours to do nursery. So all very contradictory.
