Just had reassurance scan

An I'm so upset, It was very rushed.

At first she said my bladder wasn't full enough so made my down a bottle of water, then tried again as soon as I finished my water and couldnt see anything and said she won't try again because she's going home.

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and very worried now that something's wrong eg ectopic, she wasn't a qualified sonographer so my mum said that will be why but I'm really worried can anyone shed light on this.

She also said if you haven't bled you'll probably still be pregnant I suppose. Ugh really distraught as I've been told I will never be pregnant again

Who on earth did this scan? Not NHS I'm gathering?

Wow! Was she not being supervised?! Surely they cant behave in this way?

No it's was private :( no one else could fit me an I was panicking but now I feel worse I'm going to buy more tests now

No one was supervising just a woman on her own, my mum wasn't impressed with her at all but me being silly/excited/anxious carried on with her :(

Don't buy anymore tests, they don't prove anything as even if it was eptopic you would still have the hormone in the your system. Is there an early pregnancy unit in your area? If so give them a call and explain the situation, hopefully they will give you a scan to put your mind at rest x

1. Complain, complain, complain - what a ridiculous situation to put you in. She can't try and again because she's going home? How fucking ridiculous is that?! I am angry on your behalf.

1. Was it an external or internal scan you've had?

1. If you're worried, may be worthwhile contacting your local EPU though I'm not sure what services (i.e. scans) they provide on a weekend.

I would definitely make a complaint, that's appalling! Try not to worry yourself, I'm sure it was just because she was rushed.

If a private unit has a scanner which needs a full bladder, find a better unit.

My nhs backside of rough hospital had up to date scanners for which a full bladder wasn't needed. If they do, I would assume a private unit do.

Get your money back and phone the epu at your local hospital.

She should have tried an internal scan, most early scans I've ever had have been internal.

How awfully distressing.

Go to the NHS. They may do an internal scan at 8 weeks to see what is happening at such early stages.

When you feel stronger make a complaint about this place as this sort of treatment is horrendous.

Rang up the local hospital and they said they doubt it's ectopic due to lack of symptoms I would atleast have pain, but if I so have pain come up. They told me to take a test and check for a chemical pregnancy and said will try and fit me in on Thirsday for a scan an told me not to worry they asked my details bmi etc an said it might be due to my very low bmi they can't find anything ATM but to use professionals next time

How do you know she wasn't qualified? i've never heard of a private clinic using someone unqualified.

And the comment they made about bleeding isn't helpful either as I bled both brown and bright red blood in both my pregnancies and both pregnancies went to term with gorgeous babies.

Because my hospital told me this particular company isn't qualified but the midwife said if it will reassure me to ... It done the opposite.

They're not a clinic they just do scans nothig else.

Really seems strange - i've had scans at 5 different private clinics all of which were done by sonographers who also worked for the NHS. In fact in Essex a few clinics have NHS work outsourced to them. I also think it very strange that the hospital would refer you to somewhere unqualified.

The hospital didn't refer me? I sent myself and it wasn't a clinic? I said this in my previous post, I'm a medical student I know when someone is qualified to work for the nhs and they aren't, my mums going to find out how they got the licensing to perform ultrasounds.

Surely if you are having problems the nhs will scan you?
