Time to hear back from midwife after referral?

Hello,

So I found out I was pregnant earlier this week and went to see my GP yesterday who has referred me to the midwife. It's my first pregnancy and I'm just wondering how long it should take for me to hear back from the midwife?

After looking on here I have realised I could have just self referred. So I'm wondering if it worth calling the midwife directly anyway rather than waiting for them to get back to me? As I would really like to get the ball rolling and get a date set for my first appointment.

I'd really appreciate if anyone has any advice on this?

Thanks,

Caroline

I'd like to know too! My gp gave me a number to call and they didn't answer so I filled in a form online! Can't wait to hear a date for when I can see her!

It depends how pregnant you are. Here you will be seen at about 8 weeks and they will probably not contact you much before that.

It could be a couple of weeks. They will send you your notes with an appointment for booking ( booking is approximately 9-10 weeks ) then they take your notes and give you a number to phone to book a scan! Well thats what happens where I am anyway. you get your notes back at your scan and keep them after that. Congrats toboth of you

Depends on how long ago your last period was. Don't expect to see mw until roughly 9 weeks for booking appointment. I found out I was pg at 3 weeks and 3 days, IVF so dates are exact, and it felt like an eternity for that first appt!

You may wait a few weeks to hear back, that's nornal and you probably won't have your booking in appointment until 8-11 weeks. I was just over 10 weeks when I saw mine for the first time.

How pregnant are you? I didn't have my booking appointment until 10 weeks, that's the standard in my area. I would maybe follow up if you haven't heard anything by 8 weeks.

I agree, booking appointment is likely to be at 8-11 weeks. I heard from my mw with an appointment when I was 5 weeks, but the appointment isn't until 11 weeks, so I wouldn't worry if you don't hear for a while.

I found out at 4 weeks, went to drs and filled out the midwife paperwork. Had a call from them the following week where they booked my 8 week appointment

Thanks everyone,

I thought that might be the case. I just wasn't sure and wanted to check. I'm only 4 weeks at the moment so I'll probably wait a couple of weeks before chasing.

I've just got a very inpatient husband who what to know what's happening and the doctor didn't really say a lot. I brought him a book so hopefully that will put his mind at rest until the appointment.

I just rang the doctors and the receptionist booked me in for around 8 weeks for my first appointment they tend not to see you any earlier, she then booked my 12 week scan with the hospital.
