MRSA in pregnancy

I had a nasal swab at 20 weeks and only now, at 29 weeks, I have been told that the swab detected MRSA. I was quite shocked and dare I say it embarrassed by it. I asked if I could have caught it from my MIL as she moved in with us two months ago and she was diagnosed with it on changing GP's 8 weeks ago.
They have given me a nasal ointment and a body/hair wash to use 5/10 days before my c section.
Just wanted to know what other people's experiences are when told they have it. I don't have the MRSA infection, just that 'I have it'.

MRSA is part of around 10% of the population's natural skin bacteria and does not cause any problems unless it gets into a wound or the blood stream. The nasal ointment and body wash will be to eradicate this bacteria before the c section so that it does not cause any problems for you.

I did't have MRSA in pregnancy but I have had it. I was admitted to hospital with gallstone pain and was swabbed at hospital was all clear, I was then told i need to wait 6 months had have my gallbladder removed.
I had an appointment for my pre op and was swabbed again, I had caught MRSA from my stay in hospital.
You shouldn't be affected in anyway I had to use the was/shampoo before I had my op and I was fine.
You may also of gotten it from the many appointments you have at the hospital no way of knowing but also if MIL has been in hospital she probably got it there to start with.
You will be fine as ling as you follow the instructions that you have been given :)

Don't be embarrassed it's not your fault, and may of us are carriers of it. Lots of healthcare workers are.
