Pushchair advice please x

Hi Girls,

I would like some advice on doubly buggys/pushchairs/buggy boards and essentially whether to get either please.

Our daughter will be 2 years and 7/8 months when we have our next baby (due end of July).
My daughter likes to go in the pram less and less and wants to walk as much and as often as possible. In saying that, if we are out all day and she needs a rest, the pram is where she will have it.

We currently have a mamas and papas Urbo and recently I went into our town and let my daughter walk and pushed the pram one handed and it was really heavy and hard work and so am now wondering if we decide against a double buggy if I should change our pram to a lighter one??
Soo many decisions!!! Lol.

Would be grateful for any advice.

We had a Stokke Xplory for DD1. When DD2 came along she was 24 months old. We kept the Xplory and added a buggy board. We either put DD2 in the Xplory and DD1 rides the board or DD1 in the Xplory and DD2 in the sling. Works really well.

My son will be 1 year 10 months when my baby will be born. We already have an uppa baby vista and we can buy a rumble seat which attaches onto the back and my son can sit in that while baby goes in the pushchair. Will highly recommend the uppa baby

Racheyg, have researched the uppa baby vista before as really like it!! Do you know if it is possible to have a carry cot and a seat for my older daughter?

We struggle to get DD1 into the pram now unless she is poorly. She always wants to walk herself. It just means journeys take a long time I only put her in the pram if we are in a rush. Toddler speed is very slow as every drain/leaf/stick needs inspection!

We used a double until ds was nearly 5! (2 year age gap). Buggy boards were no good for the first year.

What I did do was use a sling and light weight stroller until dd (youngest) was about 6 months then switched to the double. But I rarely drove so walked a lot.

OP you any use the carrycot and the rumble seat on the vista at the same time I believe, but you can use the rumble seat with the toddler seat with a snuggle seat in to make it suitable for a newborn.

This is our plan. We'll have 20 months between ours and we're not planning on getting a double.

I have done the same as star girl. Dd was 2.3 when baby arrived but had pretty much given up on the buggy way before that. I had a sling for baby to start with but now do buggy and buggy board. Also switched to a maclaren which is much easier to handle with two on the go.

Thank you Stargirl, yes!!!!! Very long, my daughter is the same and this particular day when I thought this pram is too heavy to manoeuvre with a new baby in it and my daughter to walk with, a walk through a very very small town took hours!! She was even examining the pavement!! Hehe.

Iggly, thank you also. A good friend of mine has offered me a buggy board, but I just can't see Freya wanting to stand on it and I would rather I think hey either walk or be in a pram.

I had a double for 6 months (dd1 was just two though). It saved my sanity I loved walking down the road without worrying about both dc. They were both strapped in and happy. We then switched to a quinny buzz with buggy board for two reasons, pushing the double was terrible for my spd, and getting the bus could be akward at busy times. The quinny was so easy to push with one hand. Lots of time holding dd1's hand and pushing pram and the buggy board worked really well - both girls could use the main seat unit at a push too so sling and buggy possible.

We then switched to a stroller (baby jogger city mini) when dd was about 15 months as the quinny was taking up lots of space in the house - I was sad to see it go. I bought all second hand and then sold the double and quinny on for similar amounts I bought originally so didn't spend lots of money on all the different pushchairs.

After reading your question I realised I didn't know myself and unfortunately after reasearch I don't think you can which I'm disappointed at. You can use the maxi cosi car seat (which we already have) from birth and the pushchair from 6 months.

It's a shame as the vista is so sturdy esp if your pushing two little ones.

Hope you manage to find one that suits your needs. As for the sling my ds didn't really like it (and I brought a ergo baby as they were meant to be the most comfy) so I would go to somewhere like John Lewis to try them all out.

It is so hard to know what to do... I don't fancy sling and pram or buggy board and pram. Love the thought of both being in pram and be walking knowing they're safe and happy.
Can't see it happening too often with my daughter now though!! ??

Rachey and OP - you can use the Vista toddler seat from birth if you use the snuggle seat. I think they're about £60 (from memory). They have them at John Lewis.

Anything - ohhh i didnt know uppababy did a snug seat. My little boy only went in the carry cot twice so I had to use the car seat until he was large enough for the pushchair.

Cymru - on knowing this I think you should take a trip to a big pushchair shop (dont want to plug john lewis too much ;) ) and have a play around. but honestly the uppababy is a dream. Good luck x

The new 2015 uppababy vista converts into a proper double, can have 2 bassinets, 2 proper toddler seats or one of each, or just be a single. It's ace! You need to make sure you look at the 2015 model though as they've remodelled it a lot.

I think visiting a pram shop(probably John Lewis as found them very helpful when I did similar before) is the best idea as like you say can try some out then.

I know I am probably asking too much but ideally money wise I would rather not pay hundreds which I imagine a new model would be (although the 2015 model sounds exactly what I am looking for!) and get a second hand one for a similar price that I can sell our pram for.

I have the Joovy Caboose stand on tandem. It has a built in buggy board and small seat at the back for a toddler and can be used as a travel system with pretty much any car seat for a new born, then front facing. My 2 year old will not sit in a buggy but will happily stand on the buggy board and will occasionally use the little seat if she is tired

I have this- love the design because the buggy board is integral to pushchair and the toddler stands inside main handle and has their own handle to hold onto. It has a second seat option but I think my dd will be too big for that.

Loud arts, that sounds really great and what I am looking for as I think my daughter would be the exact same and would see the buggy board part as fun (I just googled it).
What about the newborn baby? Where could they go apart from a car seat?

I would def wait until nearer the time tbh. We have a 16 month gap here and didn't get a double. Would have been a huge waste of money tbh as by 2 -2 1/2 they didn't even use the board anymore.

Ds2 is 3 1/2 now and hasn't been in any pram/ on buggy board since last Xmas (2 1/2 years)

There's always going to be the very odd hour you think oh a pram might have been quicker, but really such a rarity. We don't own a car either so walk a lot

The zezu is a pramette so the seat unit is/converts to the carrycot. It comes with a liner to make it more comfy, and you can get a Moses basket mattress for inside too to make it more comfy.

Thank you girls so much for all your advice. I really appreciate it, it is so helpful talking to mums who have already experienced having two, one a new born and one a toddler.

I think I will need to wait until a bit nearer the time to know how often my daughter does actually go in the pram.
My second option then would be to sell our pram and but a lightweight single one which is easier to push with a toddler holding my hand too!!

If you buy another single, best is with one handle bar, rather than two each side ( if that makes sense), as then can push one handed. Also swivel wheels on the front.

I would recommend something like the candy raspberry or bugaboo bee as can use for baby without carrycot, and so elder can sit in if really needed.

We used the bugaboo chameleon as already had, but would have got smaller if we had changed. Was very good to push though, and bugaboo buggy boards are great ( one swivel wheel and compact so easy to walk near). I believe the new bugaboo board has a seat also

I love the bugaboo prams so much!!!!
Absolutely love the bugaboo donkey, but so expensive and can't seem to get them at a reasonable price second hand.

For a lightweight pram, may see if I can find a bugaboo bee second hand as think that maybe better option and with a buggy board.
