DD2 is due Feb. DD1 is 5.

MIL today asked what I was going to get DD1 off DD2 when she is born.

Apparently she did this when she had another baby (3 boys in total) for the older ones.

Anyone else done this and if so what do I get?

I was going to ask this too! DD is 4 and I've thought about a "big sister" T shirt and perhaps a Monsters High doll (DD would love one). But I wondered whether there is something less ephemeral that might be better.

My DM still has the toy that they bought my DB when I was born. I had no idea why she kept it until she mentioned that to me and she is one of the least sentimental people I know.

pico I've never heard of this before. But I come from a huge family so maybe that's why.

MIL said she bought her boys toys each time. But I was thinking of a sister necklace, DD1 loves jewelery but I don't know

My son was 5 when dd was born. We bought him a couple of bits off the baby, hadn't heard of it being a big thing. I took his little bag off goodies in with me to hospital so when he visited baby, we said she had bought them for her big brother. Congratulations x

jenny that's what MIL said to do that why I'm thinking of something small but something she will like to so it doesn't take up much room. I'm having a cesarean so I'll be in for a food few days so dont want to take too much

I bought gifts to exchange between them too ... nothing expensive but some keepsake or a scrapbook to build the story of how they get on in the early days :)

My parents bought my brother a teddy from me when I was born which he still has now :)

We're expecting our first so it won't be an issue until next time but I plan on doing something similar.

I'll be doing the same this time for DD. My mum got her a present from baby at the gender scan too as she really wanted a sister, mum bought her a dinosaur remote control toy (which DD loves) and it worked out well as it softened the blow for her finding out she was getting a brother will be getting her something for when he arrives too so she doesn't feel left out!
