How many weeks were you when you ordered pram & nursery furniture?

Title pretty much sums it up really!

I'm 25 weeks tomorrow and we're planning to order the pram & nursery furniture & start sorting the nursery the week after Christmas.

Is this too early or about right? We're getting the Silver Cross Pioneer and I've heard they're taking a while to be delivered. Am due 6th April.

Plus I also want to make sure the nursery is painted well in advance of Beans arrival, even though he won't be going in there for a good few months after he's born.

We've already got clothes and donations from family & friends but these bits seem like the "big" things and I'm excited to get planning :)

I think its all down to personal preference, I waited until after 20 week to buy big things but had everything ordered and set by 30 weeks. I'm now 33 weeks and I'm so glad I did. It's lovely to know that the last few weeks I don't need to do anything and if little one arrives early we have everything we need. Good luck x

Our travel system was bought for us, the nursery already had most of the furniture we needed so all we had to do was the cot.

They're really expensive here and hold their prices secondhand. We wanted to leave it late because of my superstition but we went to ikea to get it the day after I was out of hospital and they'd sold out of my first and second choices and weren't getting any more in. So should have ignored my superstition if I really wanted something specific and bought early.

I got my travel system when I was about 32 weeks.

I got the cot-bed when DS was about 9 months old Blush
(he slept in the carrycot of the travel system for 8 weeks & with us/on the floor until recently)

Nursery was finished with stuff the week after we moved house so was around 22 weeks pregnant. Pram I ordered at 30 weeks but kept at DM's until I went into labour as was supersticious and had heard it's bad luck to have a pram in the house before baby was here!

I'm 21 weeks & we got the pram (silver cross pioneer) delivered last week. we ordered early as we'd heard about stock issues but ordered from Mothercare on Sunday 14th with estimated delivery date given as 23rd Dec, but it came last Wednesday (17th) Grin

I'm 26 weeks now, ordered the silver cross pioneer about a month ago and last week got a phone call to say it was in Babies R Us to collect so didn't take long at all to come in! I'm leaving it there until we move into our house in February though! Xx

If you don't have much space at home, do think about how much stuff you're getting in advance! Stuff like pram, baby seats etc really take up a lot of room! Mothercare will charge you £30 storage to store as much as you like til you want it at home.

As you have a long time to go, I would select what you want, and wait for them to be on offer. We started shopping at 30 weeks (40 weeks now), and during that 10 week time period there's been an offer/price reduction on every single thing we bought - pram, car seat, crib, nappy bin, bedding, mobile, bath & bottles. We ended up buying the crib between two good offers though, and paying more than we needed to, because we were getting antsy about having one in time. The only thing I've never seen reduced is the car seat base we want, it's the same price everywhere - I'll be looking out in the January sales.

If you get an idea of prices for what you want, you should do well in the January sales - good luck!

Didnt go for "official"nursery furniture. Given a cotbed (bought a mattress a few weeks before EDD), then got a bookcase and a chest of drawers from IKEA after the 20wk scan. I dont entirely understand wardrobes for babies, as there was no wayI was individually hanging babygrows and vests. DD is three and we wilk be buying her a wardrobe over the next few months once she has school uniform to need hanging.

Simularly I didnt see the need for a change table. We kept a mat ans basket of change stuff in the lounge as thats where we spent the daytimes, and baby was in with us til 6m and by the time she went in her own room she didnt need a night time bum change.

Carseat, buggy and carrycot didnt need pre ordering. Maclaren so we just went to Mothercare and came away with it that day (about 30wks).

We found out the sex at 12 weeks, so couldn't resist buying some sweet little clothes. Have just order lots from the next sale too!

I've bought a few other bits a pieces now too, I'm 14 weeks.

RedToothBrush · 23/12/2014 20:38

We bought when I was only 16 weeks, because they had March sales on as they try and clear stock before the financial year end.

In your shoes, I'd either buy now or wait til then. You'll get the best offers available that way.

I've actually also bought a pram a bee+ from a friend. I'd wait for nursery furniture though as you've got to store it. We never had proper fury bite though, I found the wardrobes tiny. Just bought normal furniture and a cotbed.

Zahrah5 · 23/12/2014 20:54

I feel really bad, but Im not planning to prepare a nursery.
The room which will be a nursery is currently our guestroom with a single bed and nothing else really fits there. After baby is born my mom will come to help out for about a month or so, it seems to be practical to have guest room for her to stay in. Baby will be sleeping with us in bedside crib and I am planning to empty some space in my closet for baby clothes.
But I feel bad she will not have nursery and nice decorations when she is born.

Mrscog · 23/12/2014 20:56

Umm got a 2nd hand pram and cot around 35 weeks. Put it in the spare room with already owned chest of drawers.

Save your cash for the expensive stuff they'll need - music lessons, uni fees etc.

DRSLondon · 24/12/2014 08:51

I'm at 28 weeks and will wait till 30 weeks... just in case! I'm an anxious person though!

Once we got through 20w scan and everything was ok we ordered cotbed, snuzpod & travel system. Everything is here and we are 39w tomorrow so will be using it all soon enough!

dillydollydarling · 25/12/2014 03:14

My OH and I almost bought a travel system yesterday. We saw one that we liked but they didn't have it in the colour we wanted. And we decided that it was probably a bit early as I'm not even 5 weeks yet!!

MostHighlyFlavouredLady · 26/12/2014 14:50

Zahara, don't feel bad. You won't use it if you did have it. Not for at least 6 months and possibly even years.

The ideal imagery of baby magazines with pristine organisation bears no resemblence to the reality of 'survival' and sleep arrangements born out of necessity to ensure maximum sleep for all.
