Hi all, i'm new to this board and have my first scan in a couple of weeks time!! (2nd baby for me!)Due around the middle of May next year and i'm sooo excited, can't wait for my scan so we can tell everyone! Second time around but I seem to have forgotten so much, I was wondering if anyone knew how many scans you get in Glasgow? I had 2 last time, but my partner seems to think this has changed to just the one. Also, is there a sneaky way of finding out the sex of baby?
thanks all!

Hi, a couple of my friends have delivered at the southern general, and seemed happy with it, the maternity bit is quite new as well. In 2008 the queen mothers is all moving over to the southern and it is going to be glasgows main maternity hospital so it must be ok!!
Geordie- won't be able to make it on sunday am afraid its my mums birthday so all going out for the day!! sorry hope you all have a lovely time though.

weeonion · 09/11/2006 14:35

hey folks - only just come abck to this and delighted to see that a few of us are takign action. i have written to myy MP and like trixy - got the standard brush off from rosslyn crocket (director of womens services at GG health board.) i am not happy with this so i am gonna keep on at it. i have paid for my nuchal scan and will be forkingout for the anomaly scan in a couple of weeks but it is bloody ridiculous!

lazyemma - come on over to the april thread or we have another scottish one where we have arranged the meet up on sunday.
trixy - you still up for it and how is the house going?

weeonion · 09/11/2006 14:37

the other scottish thread is -
Pregnancy: Private ultrasound scans - Scotland

geordiemacminx · 09/11/2006 14:38

Hey you.... there are a few other scottish un's on here, trying to trick them into coming to meet us on Sunday but they obviously heard we are crazy!!!!!

zippy34 · 09/11/2006 14:46

... another thing, reading about those of you who've paid for private nuchal scans, did you know that this is routine as part of your 12wk scan at the QMH (you can refuse though). Didn't realise that it wasn't at the others in Glasgow?

This is truly crazy if antenatal options are different even between the 3 Glasgow maternity units and should certainly be pointed out to people when they're deciding where to book in.

My friend for example has been told that all the antenatal classes for the Southern are booked up for her due month (May). Apparently they only run 2 a week (although they are a much smaller facility than the Princess Royal and Queen Mum's). She doesn't know whether it'll be an option to book on to ones at another hospital even though they run at least 6 sessions a week at the QMH. All she's been told is to ask about cancellations nearer the time...

Grrrrrrr!!!! I'm overdue now, so I'm prepared to have a good ol' rant about anything! Seriously though, it makes no sense.

weeonion · 09/11/2006 14:46

maybe starbucks in borders have sent out a warnign ahead of us......

zippy34 · 09/11/2006 14:48

I'd love to come and meet you but really hoping to be having my baby by then

[come out baby, your time is up emoticon]

geordiemacminx · 09/11/2006 14:59

Ooooooo a new fresh baby - that sounds far more exciting than starbucks...

I think they have put up posters in the area warning of our arrival!!

weeonion · 09/11/2006 15:27

zippy34 - oooooh - when were u due?? good luck amd let us know when she/he arrives

zippy34 · 09/11/2006 16:36

Was due on Tuesday but NOWT! Booked in for induction a week today but have been crampy over the last week and especially last night so hopefully things are moving....

Don't want to be induced but don't want to keep waiting either so here's hoping it all happens naturally.

weeonion · 09/11/2006 17:57

everything crossed for you zippy!

i have just been fired up by reading this thread so have rewritten to my mp and to rosie ilett at the scottish exec. lets not take this lying down without doing a bit of shouting!

trixymalixy · 09/11/2006 18:09

Hi weeonion/gmm etc!

The house is going fine, apart from kind of falling out with the builder who was trying to make us pay extra for stuff we thought he had already quoted for!! Why is it so hard to find a good honest tradesperson?!?!?

It is sorted now and he is doing a good job.

The ceilings have all been reinstated so it isn't as cold, but everything is really dusty.

Think I'm still up for meeting up, but will have to see how we get on with stuff at the weekend.

bananasarny · 10/11/2006 14:26

Geordimacminx, I'm in Uddingston too, not been keeping up with the threads, thanx for invite on Sun but cant, maybe locally some time?

bananasarny · 10/11/2006 14:38

I've heard the best hospital to be in is the Melrose in the borders (friend is a midwife used to work there and now is in Australia - damn shame!) She said is brilliant one to one care as they arent busy ....bit of a trek tho!! Also Nuchal Scans are done automatically in Australia for early checks - unlike the farce here. 20 weeks inot a pregancy to spot something wrong is pretty late

geordiemacminx · 10/11/2006 14:46

Banana - thats cool. I'm only a week and a bit ahead of you too. I've lived in Uddingston for 18 months now but have to admit I dont really know anyone which is a bit rubbish - especially when I have little one. Been looking for ante-natal classes.. yoga, aqua aerobics and such like but cant seem to find anything!! Are your midwife appointments at the health centre at Viewpark?

I'm 24 and this is my first bump btw. Be great to meet up some time - although I can see us being on the labour ward together!!!

bananasarny · 10/11/2006 14:56

Geordie I've been in Uddingston for 2 years, (dont know many people locally either, work in Centre Glasgow so work home dinner bed kinda thing!!) and yes I'm going to Viewpark too, next appt end Nov (16ish weeks). Cant help with classes Viewpark might know! This is my first bump too, with due dates not being that accurate, we may well be at hosp similar time!

Kidstrack · 10/11/2006 14:59

i thought it was routine that scans were 12weeks and 20weeks, 12weeks for dating and nuchal fold, and 20weeks for abnormalities, i find it shocking that those of you in Glasgow don't all get the 2 scans, i'm in Ayshire and ended up having 3scans with each of my two pregnancies, sometimes they even do a dating scan from 6weeks if you are not sure of your dates.

geordiemacminx · 10/11/2006 15:05

Its a bit grim up there mind isnt it?? I'm back on the 20th, will be 17 weeks then, have also booked private 20 week scan at Nuffield. Good idea asking up at the health centre... I am so thick at the moment!!!

Know what you mean about work home dinner bed, especially with the weather being so rubbish. We usually go for food in Udd/Bothwell or Hamilton although due to 16 weeks of sickness I havent been very far recently!!!

bananasarny · 13/11/2006 10:43

I think that scans depend on your personal circumstances and health, I had early scans as I was bleeding a bit - and may be age also. So many factors too such as family/your own medical history comes into it, I think you really have to push them too if you are concerned. I think they dont do them automatically if you are okay - but they should be doing early ones to check all is well as a matter of course ie, 11wks and 20.

bananasarny · 13/11/2006 10:45

Yes I know what you mean geordie ie sickness etc, I'm the same, not nice on the train! Dont like the waiting time in Viewpark!

geordiemacminx · 13/11/2006 11:16

I was really bad with it up until about 13 weeks but touch wood the past few weeks its eased off a bit. I even managed to have bacon and eggs for my breakfast yesterday which was a miricale!!

We had a Glasgow mums to be meet up yesterday at the Fort, it was really nice to have people to moan to that are all about the same stage!!!

weeonion · 15/11/2006 22:33

hey folks. it wa slovely to have others around the same stage and to compare bumps! have to get another one sorted...

zippy34 · 21/11/2006 13:56

Hi Glasgow ladies!

Just wanted to let you know that I had a little boy at the QMH on Friday. He was 7lb 12oz and born very quickly (5 hours start to finish!) after induction.

I have to say that the staff were fantastic. I'm recovering very well and truly believe it was all down to my midwife who really kept up my spirits and made me believe I could do it when it all seemed too much!

We stayed in until yesterday and got great bf'ding support, no pressure to leave before I felt ready, so all in all a big thumbs up to the QMH!

Very tired as is to be expected and feeding is a struggle at the moment as my milk has come in and my boobs are the size of footballs . Apparently this is a phase... here's hoping!

geordiemacminx · 21/11/2006 14:00

Congratulations zippy - pleased you had such a "pleasant" labour!! Cant wait to meet the little one... has he got a name yet?

zippy34 · 21/11/2006 14:11

We've called him Rory - and he lives up to his name, especially when he's getting his nappy changed!
