Hi, is it ok to have a semi permanent colour done at the hairdressers in the third trimester? A dark brown colour... Has anyone done this? Google tells me conflicting things!
Thanks

Absolutely fine.

What about blonde highlights at 12 weeks? Am wondering the same thing!

Jamyesterdayjamtomorrow55 · 29/10/2014 10:32

I think highlights are fine, especially after 12 weeks, as the colour doesn't really touch your scalp... But I'm worried about a whole head colour as it covers the scalp. Halloween Hmm

Seriously, it's fine. Ask your hairdresser if you're worried, but you'd have to be bathing in hair dye on a daily basis for it to affect your baby.

NHS website says:

The chemicals in permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes are not highly toxic. Most research, although limited, shows that it’s safe to colour your hair while pregnant.

Some studies have found that very high doses of the chemicals in hair dyes may cause harm. However, these doses are massive compared to the very low amount of chemicals a woman is exposed to when colouring her hair.

leanne963 · 29/10/2014 13:30

Yayyy this is fab to know!!

Even permanent is fine (although they say stay away at 12 weeks just in case)

Just dyed my permanent red/purple, I'm a hair dye addict. In fact it took better than before my pregnancy.

Pregnant hairdressers work with the stuff everyday! :)

hello, here is a patient infrmation leaflet that summarises all of the scientific studies that have been done on hair dye use in pregnancy. Hope this helps
