Pregnancy weight gain (or lack of)

I know I shouldn't complain but...am slightly worried that at 14 weeks gone I've only put on 1lb. 12 wk scan went really well, haven't been ill, have a bigger tummy and boobs, am eating like a horse... But almost no weight gain?! Am I worrying unnecessarily? With DS1 I'd put on about half a stone by this stage. Not seeing midwife for 2 weeks so any words of reassurance gratefully received.
TIA

I'm 15 weeks and have put on 1lb so far but definitely looking different - bigger boobs and belly starting to swell a bit. No idea why I haven't put on more but not too worried, I'm sure it will start to pile on soon!

Chachah · 27/10/2014 07:36

I really wouldn't worry, every pregnancy is different. I've also been eating all kinds of crap (side effect of feeling nauseous all the time), and I haven't put on anything either at about 14 weeks. It's my second, and with DC1 I only started putting on weight in the 3rd trimester - caught up nicely with the curve, and the baby was born over 9lb...

Congratulations! Thanks

mumxof3x · 27/10/2014 07:37

At 12 weeks I was 1 stone down taking me to 7stone 7 due to sickness and nausea, I wasnt much heavier then my pre pregnancy weight at 40 weeks, baby was born at 9ib and fully healthy, my other 2 pregnancys I gained 4st with one and 1st 4 with my last. The weight gain really does vary, aslong as your eating good etc i wouldnt worry. Im 11+1 this time and havnt gained yet and im eating loooads. Its all so different x

ToniWol · 27/10/2014 07:40

Am 38+3 and at 14 weeks I'd lost about 4 and a half pounds. Pick did ask the midwife but as baby was growing well at the scan (my EDD was put back, but that was more due to the fact that my cycles have always been longer than 28 days!) she said not to worry. Have now put on about a stone over my pre-pregnancy weight, and baby is measuring just about right.

jennifer86 · 27/10/2014 07:40

I wouldn't worry too much, I had only put on 2kg by 19 weeks but now I'm 21 weeks and have doubled that to 4kg now, so I think I'm going to start piling it on! as long as you're not underweight or losing it due to vomiting, I'm sure you're doing ok :)

ToniWol · 27/10/2014 07:41

Pick = I - stupid autocorrect.

Trooperslane · 27/10/2014 07:45

I only put on 9lbs and at my heaviest was 10'1

must have been the lack of wine

TriciaMcM · 27/10/2014 07:54

Another 'don't worry' from me. Everyone is different & I lost weight at that stage too because of nausea & finding it hard to eat. Babies are incredible little things even in the womb, they manage to do fine even with mothers who are ill (& get nutrients from a mother who couldn't stomach anything but chips for a week!)

Also bear in mind for later that you may not put on a huge amount of weight for the pregnancy, not everyone does. There's a reason they don't weigh people any more unless you've an unhealthy BMI to start with, high or low.

PeppermintInfusion · 27/10/2014 07:57

My bmi is just over 30 so I've been worried about putting on weight during pg, however I'm now 23 weeks and have only gained 3lbs (and junior isn't small!). Very surprised at that, as I haven't been especially careful about what I eat (I do eat a lot of fruit and veg anyway but have had serious carb cravings at times).

RozTheSchnoz · 27/10/2014 08:28

Thanks everyone -I feel suitably reassured now Smile Can't believe I'm complaining about not putting on weight!

Glad you're feeling reassured. Second trimester is where you'd expect to see weight gain, so you've got it all to come! I'd only gained a pound or so by 14 weeks but have now gained 12 by 26 weeks. My weight gain was very slow with my first pregnancy but I sure got there in the end! Sure your body is doing just what it needs to do.

Happilymarried155 · 27/10/2014 10:50

I'm 25 weeks and have only gained 4lbs so far! Baby is growing well and bump is growing so I wouldn't worry to much x

Bondy83 · 27/10/2014 13:24

I'm 22wks and currently 18lb lighter than when I got pregnant baby is cooking nicely all normal size I've got a nice little bump. This is my 3rd I'm always at my lightest when pregnant (probably due to the fact I can't drink wine ha ). I was a size 16 beforehand so slightly over weight anyway now I'm a 14 with a bump. I wouldn't worry about it every pregnancy is different not everyone piles on the pounds as long as your bump continues to grow nicely forget about what you weigh x

cheshirem2b · 27/10/2014 13:31

don't worry - everyone is different. I lost a few lb when I first found out I was pg (no drinking, some exercise and healthy eating did that) and I'm now only 3lb over my starting weight. I am a high BMI but even so at 30+4 I expected to put on more... mw isn't concerned and baby is growing fine (although now diagnosed with GD so we'll see if anything changes)

liesal79 · 27/10/2014 13:57

Im currently 31+6 and have GD. I weigh less now than my starting weight! think that maybe due to the diet of GD. I have been told its perfectly normal! :) I do have a high BMI however!

bakingmad83 · 27/10/2014 14:05

At 31 weeks I've only put on 5lb despite eating well at meals and having snacks, but bump is charting fine and midwife not worried. I've always had a slight build though, so maybe I was never going to put on a lot.

16 weeks and gained 0 pounds. I think it's perfectly normal.

Meirasa · 28/10/2014 09:14

27 weeks +3 pounds on pre pregnancy weight. It happens :-) Baby is fine x

ohthegoats · 28/10/2014 12:46

I went to 40+13 and only put on 9lbs. 7lbs 7 of which turned out to be baby.. I have no idea where the rest of the weight didn't go on, because I'm definitely much flabbier than I was before I got pregnant. My boyfriend reckons I've just lost muscle tone/muscle in general (I lifted weights and stuff before).. whichever, it's a bit weird.

nottheOP · 28/10/2014 12:53

I was down by about 7lbs at 12 weeks then put 4 lbs back on my 20 weeks and a 1lb or so a week until then. Horrible morning sickness was mainly to blame.

It was a good thing really, back down to prepreg weight 3 weeks pp and baby was fine - they take what they need.

RozTheSchnoz · 28/10/2014 13:09

Thanks all - got to love Mumsnet for reassuring, friendly advice Smile

I didn't start putting on any till well after 16 weeks. I'm now 36 weeks and almost two stone heavier. It's my 5th baby and every pregnancy I put on about the same amount no matter what I do/don't eat.

Cuppachaplz · 29/10/2014 10:51

I really wouldn't worry.
I lost half a stone in the first 3m with DS. I wasn't ill and was eating like a horse; I could only blame it on not drinking (not that I was a heavy drinker before, but I was calory packed guiness fan!). I didn't pass my pre-pregnant weight until 30 weeks, and when I stopped work at 37 weeks had only gained alb. I did gain half a stone before he was born at 42 weeks, but still 11lb was not much. He was born healthy at just over alb.
This time around, I gained a stone on the first 12 weeks. I blame the fact that I had 4w bed rest during this time, and am normally very active. I have gained practically nothing since, and am 32 weeks tomorrow!
So long as baby is fine, and you are eating, I really don't think it matters.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Cuppachaplz · 29/10/2014 10:53

Good grief! every weight has been autocorrected toalb how useless!
I gained 3 lb by 37w when I stopped work, 11 lb total by birth at 42 w, DS was 9 lb 2oz born.
